Re: killed a new ss camaro

My oldest was asking me the other day if I would buy a new Camaro.....I told him NO. When asked why I simple told him I can get a mint SyTy anyway I like it, modded or not, for under half the sticker price(give or take a few $) of a loaded 2SS Camaro's price and still kicks its ass.

Re: killed a new ss camaro

thats a really slow time for one of those. even the trap was off by a couple mph. deff. driver mod. 105mph in that car should be about 13.1 ish?

Great kill! Iv seen alot of these SS's with the 6sp run low 13's and high 12's. its still a fat pig though. What was your .60ft?

People tend to forget that power/weight ratio can go a long way. That was a nice run.

nice time man!!

but serious that camaro driver couldn''t drive like shit, makes me think about my nephew who i let do a 1/4 mile in the gto. hitting the brakes while letting off and such. he also did high 14 sec sec run. while it''s a 13 sec car easy

agreed. power to wieght is the reason they can achieve high 12's and trapping almost 110. I believe the record stock tire filter is 12.6? Thats movin for a car that is round 4k. The ls series motors are just amazing for using old tech. They still could loose some wieght or FI:D hmmm guess the Z28 will get that spot when it comes out.;)

Re: killed a new ss camaro

I've got a 2010 SS & stock mine never trapped less than 110, usually 111, where do you live, what was the DA. Showroom stock with 305-35-20 Nitto 555r's mine went 12.96, swapped to a shorter wheel tire combo & went 12.72. Now with cam, headers, 1000hp custom axles, BMR trailing arms, cai NA it runs in the 11's, the axles make a difference as some times these cars will wheel hop & end up breaking an axle. Now if I get wheel hop I just drive right through it. Now I'm in the 11's NA & easy 10's on a 150 shot, deep into the 10's on a 200 shot. My cam was custom cut by LMR & it's more of a nitrous grind than a NA grind, but still made around 460rwhp NA with just a cam & bolton's. It picks up almost 200 rwhp on a 150 shot because it's optimized for the kit. Don't know what it does to the wheels on the 200 shot, I just street tuned it for the 200 shot. It's not a stretch to make close to 700rwhp on these LS3's without taking the heads off if you are using power adders. They are a hard car to launch if you have the manual though. I've seen them at the track running anywhere from mid 14's down into the 12's. Lots of no driving suckers buying these cars & making it look bad for us racers, or in my case making it easy to be underestimated.

That is true the frist time i when to the track there was a turbo 04 gto that couldn't get out of the 14's yet there is a stock 04 running high 12's. Some people just need the driver mod. (i might be one of those) but none the less that is a great pass in the ty

HAHAH I was going to mention the GTO's ... people have NO CLUE how to launch these modern cars with IRS ( independant suspension ) ---

Funny story, or at least to me. A guy I know has a LS1 GTO wiht a few little bolton's he can't get out of the 14's, I was at the track running my 9sec 99 Z28 & my wife was in the 2010SS. The guy came up to me and asked me if I would make a pass in his car to see what I could get it to do. Well I managed to run about a 13.2x in his car, but when I pulled 4th I snapped the shifter in half, so he got his quickest time slip for his car & also got his shifter handed to him in 2 pieces. I offered to weld it back together, but he was just so happy to find out he didn't have a lemon, he didn't care. He had hell driving it home.

Sometimes it's not just the driver with the new SS's, to get mine to launch right & fight the line between bogging & spinning I ride my clutch out of the hole trying to keep the motor turning 5-6k, more than once I've fully released the clutch once it hooked up & the pedal would stick 1/2 way allowing the clutch to slip for what seemed like an eternity, but it was actually .2-.3 seconds. I'm still on the stock clutch with 650 rwhp & I probably have 100-150 passes on the clutch & every time I launch it the clutch lets out a little puff of smoke & you can smell clutch in the car when the run is over. I'm trying to kill the clutch to get something with less rotating weight & more race friendly, but the LS7 clutches in these cars hold up pretty well. I'm sure my flywheel is all nice, shiny & blued.

I'm 41 & have raced small blocks & big blocks my whole life. Then I got my first LS1 car about 10 years ago. I've never looked back, my 99Z is a stock CI 346" motor. It puts down over 470 rwhp on motor & since it's really a nitrous specific setup with a big fogger & nitrous cam, on what the books call a 200 shot it jumps from 470 to 795 RWHP. Motor was built by a guy named Alan Futral, supposed to be one of the best.

To do the same with a SBC, it would take a massive cam, no vacuum for your brakes, some sort of special head with some what was less than the regular SBC 23deg heads and all kinds of other stuff. I do agree that a regular SBC does sound a little better, but go to my post in the lounge & listen to the video of my 99 running that I posted, it doesn't sound bad at all. 795 rwhp through a 12 bolt, 4L60 & loose converter is over 1000 fwhp. The motor is supposed to be handle a 350 shot, but 9's are quick enough in a street legal car & the motor will last longer if I don't run it at max effort.

Re: killed a new ss camaro

I guess I just hate the way the LS engines sound ... no matter what.

I would prefer a LT1 or gen 1 sbc for the sound ... but I am not looking for anything but 11 second slips and streetability.

Honestly I prefer ANY v8 to the 4.3 or 3.8 turbo that I have ... but they are so impressive in the performance numbers I cant shrug it off ( and I get off on the spooling/wastegate/ bov sounds enough to ignore the exhaust tone ) .

My buddy had an 05' GTO with 10k miles and we lined up at the track vs my lt1 and 140k miles (both m6). He had KN CAI and SLP X pipe and muffs ... I had KN CAI, headers, short throw, internet comp tune, and 315's in the rear. We would consistantly run the same times (I ran 13.7, he ran 14.1). He couldnt launch or row the gears I guess?! ---

EDIT: ok wow, I just heard your 2010 and 99 clips and I am impressed, you have GREAT taste :) ---

Re: killed a new ss camaro

Thanks I think they sound good. I'm in the process of building a 632ci BBC with twin 88mm turbo's for my 02 Formula, so I'm not just a LS fan. Making it a 10.5 Drag Radial car, shootin for mid 7's once I learn how to drive it.

The clip you here of the 2010 was with a different exhaust, it sounds more like the 99 now a days. I have to get more video of it, just not home now.
