Launch Control

How many use the e brake to build more boost when staged? Tomorrow is street legal drags so I figure I will take the Syclone. It is odd that while on the street I can build 10 lbs for a launch but at the strip I cannot get more than 5 or 6 lbs.

I'll heard people using the e brake pop the hood instead. Just curious to see if it really works or is worth the effort.

I have a tough enough time trying to watch the lap top, lights, boost gage and other person. I don't think I want to try setting the e brake and trying to release it. Forget that $hit.

Re: Launch Control

Get bigger rear wheel cylinder instead. Before swapping them I could only do 4-5psi at the track. I would want to be reach down for the E brake while trying to launch these trucks...

what he said, bigger cylinders make a huge difference, and easy to change, worth the effort, hell now I don't even have to build vacuum or anything.

Personally I'd go with building up vacuum a bunch, then let 'er rip.

A lot of people forget about the rear brake adjusters... you can either tighten
them manually, or back the vehicle up and hit the brakes a few times.

Sticky front tires make you a lot less likely to slide on gumbo... street tires just skid across the slime.

The rear brake cyls are well worth the cost, IMO.

A good launch is worth .3-.5, so anything you can do to get off the line quicker is worth the cost.

hmm... i seem to be able to launch at 21 psi.... hows that for launch control. oh and i'm not using the ebrake.

do a search for myname and line lock.

Put the bigger wheel cylinders on the truck. No need for the e brake or line lock. No offence Ed but why didnt you just put a transbrake in it?

transbrake in a 400 is not available if you want trans to shift itself.

What is the recommended wheel cylinders upgrade?

change the wheel cylinders to 7/8 dia. buy 2 sets of shoes. throw the small ones away, install 4 large shoes.

the other part of this that helps: the proportioning valve sends 90 % brake pressure to the front and 10% to the rear. so this upgrade is kinda limited. to make a real difference i added a solenoid to bypass the rear prop valve. THis then allows the rear brakes to receive the same pressure as the front. Makes a very big difference! more so than the wheel cyl and shoe change. You will find a tech article about it in the tech section.

How does proportioning the rear brakes 50/50 affect your streetability for hard braking? Or do you adjust it when racing and disable when driving? Thanks!

doesnt affect it at all. if you brake hard enough to lock up a wheel, abs takes over and does just what it is supposed to do. never used it on the street except to test and normal braking the truck would stop in a shorter distance.

oh yeah you forgot the abs!
