Limit of stock injector's?

I was wondering, if all else is up to par:
Walbro fuel pump hot wired
New filter
Tune up

What MPH and/or ET do the stock injectors run out?
When is the cut off to upgrade?

Thank you

Jim

I think I've seen guys run them into the high 11's...but I think thats got to be on the very limit...and maybe over.

I only recorded one run on data master and it said 120% Inj DC
I was shocked, that was mty slowest run.
It got me worried.
I am leaning towards 50's.
My goal is to get to 11.9 in '03.
Right now I have high 1.7 60 ft 1/8 @8.0 and I think with tires, larger exhaust housing, and some real gas (116) I might be able to get there.

We will see.

I'd say 112-114mph on a Syclone, but it's going to vary.

The duty cycle is going to be static in most programs at high boost.

I believe one of the guys has done blue top 36# injectors on one of my Ultimate-stock injector setups (Mike ?) to run high 11s consistently in a Syclone.

FWIW, i am wondering about propane injection in one of these situations in the future - instead of spending $300-400 on injectors, spend it on a propane setup, and you can avoid the cost of race gas to boot.

Just a thought.

stockers will go 11.96@113 @25psi. Required 116 octane, 57psi base FP, and crossing my fingers/toes while it detonated at shift points/TC lock up(max I got was ~5 deg KR).

IMO the stockers are done for at that level unless you go with some kind of KR suppression(water/alky/propane inj)

With proper atomization, jet size and nozzle placement my SMC alky kit is almost a damn fine way around injectors. At 48lbs fp, 20psi boost, alky on 8 1/2 of 10 and CA's 91 octane pump gas I'm getting max KR of 1.8deg at tcc lockup. Wanna go faster still? The jet I'm using is a #10, and a #15 is offered. Don't want to use more alky(50/50 alky and distilled water)? FP is still at a paltry 48lbs. Take it into the mid-high 50s and you could flood the thing. I wouldn't recommend a big turbo, or doing anything but taking it easy, or WOT while watching that DM. It leans out a bit just before the alky starts spraying at 13psi and I'm sure running 8psi or so up a hill on the highway would put your mill in harm's way. Running rich enough to cover that, you can't use much alky b/c it'll flood and sputter.
Just what I've learned.

I have run 11.70's - 12.00 with the stock injectors without any problems so far using the ultimate. But then again I don't plan on making my truck any faster.

I ran 11.94@112 on stock injectors, @ 60 psi base. Stock heads, cam,
20g.

I fully believe I can get to 11.80 with them, but any further than that
is gonna be pushing it. (assuming a full weight Sy, obviously a lighter
truck will be faster)

Keep in mind, this is a fully tuned setup, using a wide-band to know
when you're really running out of fuel.

Add alky/propane, and the picture changes. It wouldn't surprise me to
see a 11.20 on stock injectors, with something augmenting the fuel.

That being said, marginal injectors on a marginal system are a sure
way to a piston with holes in it. 50# injectors are cheap, when compared
with the cost of a motor.

Touching on what BG mentioned......I ran blue tops with an old v.6 Ultimate years ago and it did fine. Plenty of fuel for 18-20 psi out of a 20G and stock otherwise. Didn't know WTF I was doing back then (still don't) and never put an effort into tuning that combo (other than FP adjustments) or pushing those injectors to their limit, but they did quite well with the very mild setup I had back then. Just went to 50's, bigger turbo, so on and so forth on the next build, but there was probably a good bit of power potential in those old blue tops (knowing what we know now).

So, for those of you with easy access to blue tops, they will work fine with stock based chips (I've personally tested the Ultimate and Conley Magnum). Good answer to semi-stock fuel woes, but not THE answer if you ask me.

folks following this should be aware ford last year dropped the 36's from their lineup, and they are unavailable now.
accel makes a set, if someone wants to play with this.
if i had a set of 'em, i'd do it with a v6 chip.
my 33's are up at 70 psi base to keep up, and they're really not on way top end....
i have a question for all the atr haters (seriously) - alky injection vs. the 7th injector - looking at wet flow issues of the intake (if there are any) why would alky/water be any better far as cyl to cyl distribution goes vs. an atr 7th injector?

cant answer your question but using the 7th inj here.
I found i had more knock at low end without the 7th inj spraying. With the 7th inj spraying i would seem to bog down at high end. Cant describe it any better it just seemed like it was breaking up if i sprayed at top end.
With 7th on i would see kr come in real bad at 74 mph. I would lose all advance.
So i tried turning off the 7th at 60mph manually. Prior to this i was getting 13.7 to 13.9. When i manually turned off 7th at 60 mph i got a 13.4, which was my best so far.

So i stumped as to where to go beyond this between the top end and low end differences since i found it would help and hurt , unless i manually turned it off during a run.

I will eventually go to 50's and an ultimate upgrade. but those arre the results i had with the 7th on a stock motor.

Would the 36 pound injectors off of the supercharged Grand Prix GTP work well? I know where I can get a set for cheap.

no, they have a fat bottom end, prolly wouldn't work well

that's why i said the ford blue tops, they are very linear

you can usually find the ford blue tops for sale over on turbobuick.com

just do a search on them in the classifieds.
