J/K. Im not a troll. Im an actual GM owner. I own a 1997 ECSB 2wd and am about to purchase a 1974 4x4 Chevy.

Enough about chevys, how about some Sy's.

I am looking into purchasing a black Sy w/ 87k and completely stock. The condition is ok, and it has been sitting outside. The truck has a storied history of owners, and the current owner is reputable. What do you think is a fair price for this vehicle?

For example, the current owner, sold it on payments, to some guy as a work vehicle/daily driver. The guy couldnt make the payments, and this guy got the truck back. The person agreed to pay supposed $10k flat and paid around $2-3k off and had it taken back. I figure, if the truck runs perfect, its worth between $8k-$10k. It has been sitting outside, so it needs tires, a good waxing, and an interior cleaning (dusty!).

The guy I am purchasing it from is the owner of my autobody repair shop and the guy who installed Cadillac taillights in my chevy ECSB. This guy would be the one painting this vehicle if it needs it, so I am being careful to work him for a good deal on all counts, especially since I am so far into $$$ with him already.

Do you think $ 7,500.00 cash is a fair offer? Do you think its too low, or too high? With 87k, im a bit scared that Im going to buy this truck, and have it completely crap its pants, and Ill be stuck putting $15k into it. Yes, I do want to put $15k into a Sy, just not within the next 2-4 years minimum.

What else should I do besides compression check, etc.? Should I get the VIN and see any special options or the production number? If I bring that info here, will it necessarily help me?

TIA.

Hmm. Ok. The only thing though, is this truck is a bit rough around the edges. For example, I wonder how many snakes/birds/mice live in the intercooler thing. I cant drive the truck until I CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN. I guess $ 7,500 is a bit low, but that is going to be my offer. I may pay up to $9k for this truck (maybe more, depends on how I feel after a test drive).

The interior is sooooooo dirty as well. It looks like someone left the window down during a dust storm. I mean, Im sort of at a loss for words to describe it. You cant sit on the seats w/o taking half the dust with you.

I think the problem is, the truck has not been driven in about 2 years. I have seen it sitting, and it only moves about once/month or less. The owner had moved it out of his shop 6 times in the past 2 weeks, and Im getting anxious about it since I drive past it everyday and can see it from the street.

Want to know what is even worse? Some guy with a Sy works at the other end of the block too. So I get to pass 2 Sy's multiple times daily and all Im thinking is "Black Gold!".

Hey Stealth97

I post over at GM Truck Performance Forum occasionally.

Sounds like a lot of cleanup on that truck. As for paint the cladding is known to fade badly even on a perfect low mile truck.
If you buy it your in good hands here on fixing and then modifying it.

Good luck

Hi Wade, AKA TY2185. I know you from PA&A. I think I am buying a Sy. I gotta work out the deal with this guy. Surely he will take the $$. I paid him cash to put bodywork, Cadillac taillights, and about to pay him for the Sy. He is making out big time. =)

I would humbly estimate that you have at least $2k in work in front of you if it has been sitting that long.

Vacuum Lines $50
Fuel Pump $100
IC Line Reroute $20
New Exhaust $400
New Cat $200
New Tires $400
New IC Pump $80
Starter?
Heater Core Replacement?
Alternator?
Oil?
Gas Draining?
Fuel Filter?

All the other little things that I've been doing would be about what you can expect to be doing.

Just for comparison, I bought my stock Sy with 77k for $10k in '01. I consider it a decent deal, but not anything fantastic. I found out later that the mufflers had been removed, but it still had a paper air filter even. The paint wasn't perfect, but about as good as you could expect on a 10 year old vehicle with 77k.

I'd definitely take Ryan's advice and expect to spend a bit to get a lot of little things fixed up. Most of it is stuff I've also done on my high-mileage S-10, but those little things can all add up. You'll probably be happiest if you drop the money and replace all the bad or questionable stuff right now, rather than having your truck down every weekend for the next few months.

I'll buy the seats off ya for cheap if you don't want them.

Now why wouldnt I want the seats? I mean, I would want to DRIVE the truck. And I would keep the stock parts no matter what. Syclone is a true collector vehicle. I believe I am going to buy this one.

I think I will buy this Syclone, do all the questionable stuff for about 2k at once (cheaper rather than breaking it all) and have one sweet truck. I need to move fairly quickly, as I also want my 97 to get painted.

Damn, it only takes $$$.

Edit: Got off the phone, and my friend said to come by Saturday and testdrive it. Should I walk with my new Syclone? We shall see...

Stay tuned, same bat time, same bat channel. :evilbat:
