lost to a new WRX.....

I was out cruisin in the ty last night with a few friends and we pulled into denny's.....as soon as i was about to pull out we spotted a new WRX and he surly seen me.....we pulled up side by sid at the light he looked over and hollered out lets run em......( my ty is petty much stock...besides...k/n airfiltr pit bulraceing chip, intercooler kit, 3" exhaust)anyway...before i knew it the light turned green only getting about a 5lb launch we took off side by side to 40 mph he pulled ahead quickly though....im sure it was because only5lb boost and also 3 passagers...anyway we took it up to around 100 mph he had about 2 car lengths on me then we slowed down and took off again at a 30 mph roll....this time we were side by side untill abut 80...and hn he pulled away...After we slowed down i tried to get him to pull over to talk about our cars but he didnt for some reason....
I thought the WRX's run low 14's in the 1/4??? does anyone else know about them?? shouldnt a ty pretty much run side by side through the whole 1/4 if not take it by a car length???

Your Ty might be out of tune, do you have a scan tool, what is your normal knock retard at WOT?

Ty's also run low 14's in the 1/4...some run 15's...some run 13's...read the FAQ to find out where you fit in.

My guess is its outa tune or the guy has mods. I posted a kill a couple weeks ago. I smoked a new WRX and a new mustang gt. I raced the chick in the WRX from about 40mph she was doing about 45-50 when she came up on me. Spanked the GT from 35 to i think somewhere round 55-60 something like that...i forget but i won.

I own a WRX, and stock I would be suprised to see it beat a well tuned stock sy or ty. I haven't had the WRX at the track, but both my Sy's (one stock and one bolt-on modified) "feel" a lot faster.

Shifting the 5-speed adds another element to the WRX - the shifter is really tight. I wouldn't race a syty from a light unless I was planning on losing....

I know a fellow American airlines pilot that has one. He told me it ran a 13.5. I told him "my ass it will run 13.5". He took me out to his car and showed me the timeslip, actualy a bunch of them. I asked him what had been done. He just said "oh, its mostly stock". Yeah right!!!!!

I believe that the stockers run 0-60 in 5.9 and quarter mile in 14.9. Those are Subarus' numbers. Car and Driver said 0-60 in 5.8 and quarter in 14.7. Thats the US model. I read somewhere awhile back that the Japanese model was has the most HP and its only at 250. Also floating around are rumors that the new US 2004 model will have 280hp. Neat cant wait to get spanked by some kid in an Jeep Eagle on steroids. Im not saying I cant beat him with mods but it seems like teenagers have nothing but mom and dads money to spend these days. I have to work for mine =)

So you raced for like 1.5 seconds? That's not really smoking anything dude...

If your gonna call something a kill, you gotta be sure it's a kill - race a 1/4 mile or at least to 80 or something. Lots of syty will beat cars 0-60 and get KILLED in the 1/4 mile...ya'll don't say you beat someones ass...say you beat them 0-60.

Or give them the jump from a punch...if you pass 'em and keep pulling, you know you've won for sure.

I have a WRX for my daily driver. It doesnt launch hard enough to beat any SyTy. It is fast when it gets going, but it is a world apart from my Sy. Havent been to the track with the WRX, but I have seen a few stock running mid 14s.

kill is a kill when they back off isnt it. these are roads with lots of lights not really anywhere for a 1/4 and we were jockeying for position in both cases. why dont you go read this http://syty.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?topic=11420&forum=5

I agree with axxe and maxtor, either the Ty is running bad, the WRX had mods, or a little of both.

There is no way my WRX can come close to matching my Sy from a stop. Not only that, but the WRX's shifter/clutch combo has to be the worst I've ever used, making for a tough launch and 1-2 shift. Maybe it's just me, but I can never get a fast, clean shift out of that thing. Funny, I never had a problem with my 6-speed Camaro or 5-speed Mustang, but the WRX shifter is a nightmare for me.

The STI, a "performance" model of the WRX, is supposed to be out in '04 I've heard, with ratings maybe as high as 280hp. That might be a little bit more of a problem for us.

Did the WRX driver have any passangers? you said you had 3. One can be the difference between winning and losing, 3 can be catastophic!

WRX's with mods can easily hang with or beat most syty's out there. We currently have the highest horsepower stock block (internals, no headwork) in the country and we are putting out 311.5hp with 272.8ftlbs. We are waiting till we can hook up with some race gas and turn up the boost a little more. This car will easily be mid to low 12's with a g-tech 0-60 of about 3.7s. It is a shame not more of our trucks run real strong. We should all be in the low 13's high 12's stock. It doesn't take much for us. Oh yeah I have not had a problem at all with the shifter on the wrx, if you are having a problem just upgrade to the sti short throw. Works very nice.
