Lost to VR4 from highway roll

On Mopac going south toward 183, coming from downtown, saw a red VR4 fly by me. Catch up to it, he looks over and I give it some gas and let off so he can hear the BOV (which is a very good instigator for races). When we even back up, I wait for him to go. He doesn't so I go and he doesn't follow. So I go on my way. He comes up next to me and hits it. I wasn't ready for it, still in OD. We line back up, I put it in D, we make eye contact and hit it from about 50mph. We start off even and then he so slighty starts to pull ahead and keeps pulling ahead until we stop. My speedo was pegged at 120 when we stopped and he was a good 2-4 cars ahead, hard to tell. The only bright side to this, is my truck is not running right. Has some very bad ticking from a bad wrist pin on #6 which fools the knock sensor. So, I get maybe 10psi of boost at the most. When I get done building the motor once again for the 3rd time (first 2 times not my fault :( ), this fool is mine. He was cool and gave a thumbs up.

Funny, how many of these sories I've read and have no idea where the streets are... so I start reading this one and - hey! Austin! Good to hear from you, Trey.

you shouldn't be racing when you know it isn't running good

Dead on. Dead "friggen" on.

You gotta get your brain and your foot to get to know each other and work together. I've made the same damned mistake so many times and it only makes you look worse than if you hadnt raced. If you dont race they will still always have to wonder if you couldnt blow em off the road. But if you do, as far as they know your running optimal and thats the story theyll tell. I made that mistake with a late model Z28 a couple months back, I was sick to my stomach for a week. Ug, I think its making me sick again......

Remember, if you get beat....... it makes the rest of us look bad. :D

I was suprised I didn't get walked even worse. I know I am asking for trouble, but at this point, I am wanting the motor to fail again. The faster it fails, the faster I will have to get it fixed. I have about 3/5s of a built engine put together. Just taking it slow so I don't spend money I don't have.

I don't get to race much, and couldn't pass up the chance. Win or lose, it was fun and that was what I was going for. Winning would have been icing on the cake.

Yeah i have a Galant Vr4 also and that thing is a monster. Ultimate sleeper. It ran 11.9 at 114 last time out. It is nice cause it is not like the rest of the rice. Looks like the family grocery getter

Thanks for the complimetns guys. Currently looking for a low mile unmodded White Typhoon in Illinois & Wisconsin area. Need a daily driver :p. Love limited production vehicles & can't beat awd turbo.

just curious was it a galant vr4 or a 3000gt vr4?

3000GT. The Galant VR4s are super rare, only seen one in Austin.
I know a girl in AK with a Galant VR4, and she doesn't even know what it is...her Dad gave it to her.

there is about 7 in my area (philly area). i think it has to be the highest concentration of them in the country though. one friend owns one, another owns 2, i know of a few others..

cool, but i HATE the stock suspension and they are heavy as hell. get the thing to go fast and fear for your life!

Yeah the 4G63 has a lot of potential as long as you can deal with the reliabilty issues. I think mine is down more then it is on the road. Anything over 300hp on it and things start to fail. But hell of fun when she is on the road. :D

AMS has about 6 alone and there are 6 more I know of in the Illinois area. AMS people have killed 3 that I know of. Adam D. formerly of AMS had the fastest Galant p to about 6 months ago. Think he ran 10.9 1/4

that's the wierd thing. my dsm used to be like that, but since i've beefed almost everything up it has been semi reliable lately. i am trying to sell it and i still have the 3 bolt rear in, but pretty soon if it doesn't sell im gonna put my 4 bolt rear in it and try to go to atco and beat a 12.4 (im sure i'll need race gas but oh well- you can only take pumpgas soo far).

as for 300whp being the breaking point- i'd say with the awd it only takes maybe 250whp and 250wtq to start breaking shit regularly with a diamond star.

this is why sy/ty's are nice. you pretty much (from what i've read) just break the propellor shaft or the transmission..no need to worry about the transfer case, the rear, the (non-existent) clutch...
