Lotek 3 gauge pod question

I bought a 3 gauge pod and has no hardware or instructions. I read on autometer that they recommend installing their full pillar pod over your stock pillar cover. What do you guys do with the Lotek? I figured I would remove the stock pillar cover and install this one. There is no screws, no screw covers ( I can get them from lotek) and no instructions.

Any pointers? Do I have to drill holes in my stock pillar cover? I'd rather not do that.

TIA

I thought so too, but can't confirm anywhere. Thought someone could help...

Re: Lotek 3 gauge pod question

if the body of the pillar pod looks like your pillar then it replaces it and usually uses the same hard ware as the stock pillar

if the pillar pod is only big enough to hold the pods.. kinda universal looking.. then it goes on top of the stock pillar and can move up or down in positon before you mount it. Or it can be cut in and moulded to look stock by any good fiberglass guy

since you have no mount holes on the pod .. it seems like you have the one that replaces the whole pillar.

I have this one

It covers the full pillar, but there are holes drilled in it already. I am pretty sure they don't match up with the holes on the stock pillar cover. Do I have to drill new holes in my a-pillar?

I could be wrong but
that one just happens to be the same length as the stock one... it goes over top and fastens with some barbed "rivets" after you drill through into the stock pillar.

So is it the autometer one that replaces the stock pillar cover?

Truckless. For now.

Yup. I was lucky enough to have one of each to decide which one to use. The Lotek works better over the stock A-Pillar while the Autometer works best in place of the stock A-Pillar. I painted my Autometer with some cheap Autozone paint and it looks good. I went Autometer because I didn't like the look of the Lotek over the stock A-Pillar.

Re: Lotek 3 gauge pod question

Is it possible to replace the stock pillar cover with the lotek pod or only the autometer? I was going to buy the autometer because I read around and heard it was better, but I got the lotek one for cheap from a board member.

Nope. When I prototyped the original, it was designed to replace the stock A-pillar cover.
Lyle had me send a stock cover as a template.

It's intentionally molded larger than the stocker so that it can be trimmed to fit, and it also
makes it easier to get wires behind.

You'll need to drill two small holes in the flat part to mount it. Alternatively, you can use
the 3M double stick tape stuff, but I find that this gets to be a hassle when adding/removing
gauges.

After 10 years (?, dang, it's been a long time), the original 3-gauge is holding up well. It's
outlived 2 different sets of gauges.

Lyle would know this better than I would, but I *think* this was the first replacement-type
pillar gauge pod ever made... for any vehicle. He had made "over the top" single and
double pods before, but this was the first where it replaced the existing part.

It wasn't too long after that, that Autometer and several others began selling them.

Re: Lotek 3 gauge pod question

pull off old one install lotek you need to redrill holes not too deep :)
and they send you caps but what I did was get 3 screws that matched the stock ones and used no caps because I thought it would look funny caps on one side and black screws on the other... :2cents:

Re: Lotek 3 gauge pod question

Well I checked out my pillar pod and it looks like it will fit ok. I might buy the autometer though and check the fit on that one.

One thing I noticed is how do you stuff the wires and hoses in between the pillar and the dash where the door opens up? There looks like there is no room there.

Any help?

Re: Lotek 3 gauge pod question

I spoke to Denis at Lotek today. He says that it is a replacement for the stock pillar cover, no need to install over the stocker. I ran my wires and boost tube with no problem between the pillar cover and the gap of the dash / sheet metal. Hope that helps.

Re: Lotek 3 gauge pod question

Installed it recently and it looks nice. I am just using screws with no caps so it matches the other side. One thing I had to do was cut the gauges a little. The mounting bolts on the gauges were too long to fit in the gauge pod. They would hit and not enable me to push the gauge fully in the pod.

Re: Lotek 3 gauge pod question

I had to use the spacers they sell for my guages.
X2 on the screws. I went to napa and picked up some black screws to match the other side.

IMO I wouldn't buy stuff called LOW TECH. Doesn't sound very cutting edge.
