Lower Intercooler Interest.

Looking to see if anyone is interested in this. I have my radiator man looking into a larger lower intercooler that will bolt in useing the stock mounting with really minor work, mainly trimming the housing some. If you are interested post here and I will look at a group purchase price from him. More to come as I get information back from him.

Re: Lower Intercooler Interest.

I posted about something like this last year...
we are making 3 of them...
ours has the lower 1/4 as a heat exchanger and the balance as a rad. :rotf:

Re: Lower Intercooler Interest.

Griffen radiator makes these I think already. I'm trying to find the info on those. I called Griffen. Couldn't get through. They made the lower CCHE behind the bumper. I tried some searches but couldn't get a part number. If they call me back, I'll post it up with a price.

Here is an old thread from the mailing list.

And here is what's required to fit the Griffin.

Re: Lower Intercooler Interest.

Find someone with the DeQuick W/A CCHE it was a way better design than griffin and it didn't require hacking the mounting shroud.

I traded mine to TurboJunk for his KB A/A so he may be able to get you detailed pics and measurements from it.
Thats the DQ hanging down under the bumper in my avatar pic.
You can see it is obviously larger.

it was much larger, more capacity and bolted right in even easier than stock.
You lose the mounting location for the pump but I mounted my pump behind the bumper in that cavity.
Plenty of room back there.

I just got sick of dealing with purging bubbles from the coolant, hoses and pumps.
A/A with alky is just fine by me.

I tried that route last year by getting intouch with griffen radiator, but they never responded. I also got intouch with one of the guys who installed one of these. This is his link http://www.whitetyphoon.com/griffin_cche/index.html

I asked him if he had a part number for the core and he said that he didn't. That was just too long ago and he couldn't remember. That's why I got intouch with my radiator man and dropped off a spare frame and lower heat exchanger. I will be getting in touch with him tomorrow to check on it.

Re: Lower Intercooler Interest.

They never called back. I guess they weren't interested. If you can make one with greater capacity and use some of the stock brackets, you'll have something good there. You can see from Whitetyphoon pics that the griffen was MUCH wider and for the most part couldn't use any of the stock brackets.

We were talking along the lines of 2 row of 1" tubing and using the rubber mounts that were use on the 70's 4 core radiator with very minor changes to be done to the stock bracket. We are still working on it, but have a slight delay as posted above.

Re: Lower Intercooler Interest.

OK. Here the update he has most of the parts to put one together and we are for sure going with a 2 row 1" core all Alum. Next Sat I taking my truck over for the test fit to make sure that it will be a R/R type of replacement. The change to the mounting bracket looks to be a change as listed in post #18.(using the rubber mounts that were use on the 70's 4 core radiator) I should have pictures next week and a price if all goes well. At that time I will make a list of those that are interested. At last count it was 8 counting mine as well.
