ls1 rear brakes.

Da.

Threshhold braking will always stomp ABS unless we happen to be talking about some of the newer systems on some German and Jap cars. BUT. Those systems are integrated with other systems which we don't have.

Meh.

well lets get back to subject.

I really want to know more about the rear brakes and the parking brake issue for the Syclone.

So can someone explain more about why the parking brake from the syclone wouldn't work??

I just wanted to know what makes it not work since I wondered if I could fix that with something I could swap from the Typhoon. I have a Typhoon just waiting to be swapped for parts. So if there is something I can take out of the Typhoon to make it work on the Syclone, I'd do it.

Thanks.

The ABS on my corvette works great. The ABS on my syclone absolutely sucks, it seem to decrease my braking stopping by quite a bit. My Sy ABS is now broken (clogged) so I am not sure how much that has to contributed to that. My Ty's ABS seem to work pretty good in the snow, and was alot better than I expected (especially since I remember how bad my Sy abs sucks), however I haven't tried it in the rain/dry yet. So of you maybe complaining about faulty equipement.

Well... I have driven the Sy every winter since new. I think it rules in the snow as long as it's:

Not so deep that it fills the crossmember, compacts hard, and acts as a big 5th brake.

Not a really steep slope. Up or down. Wide tires and gravity are a bad combo.

As an aside... Ask any rally driver, or on-road driving instructor, or peeps from Audi, Porsche, etc. Turn off the ABS in the snow. You want the tires to lock up. The plow effect of pushing divets of snow in front of the tires will stop you quicker than ABS. OF COURSE this won't work in straight ice...just snow.

wow. there is some bickering going on here, but I hope this isnt in a responce to me. I have no problem with a person's choice to keep the stock abs. But it is an old, limited system.

At a cool $1000 an oem replacement doesnt do it's worth. In my situation there was no question if it was going to leave my engine bay.

I'm very interested in the ls-1 rears as well.

bdubb - wasnt responding or talking to you.
u guys dont wanna listen, fine - not my ttruck.
i will say i'd like to see any of you try to stop hard on a rainy low traction road with big brakes front and rear.
i have a friend with a tow truck - sure he'd like your business.
having been to driving school and more then a few open track events, i understand threshold braking and am capable of this complex task - but bad conditions r a different deal.
those with real brakes already know what i am talking about, those who don't and get them without abs will find out.
just advice - dont wanna listen, dont.
already decided abs sucks and that's it?
fine.
the abs is a totally differnet animal with rigid, responsive calipers, like the baer/pbr. - it works incredibly well, doesnt kick in unless needed, pedal stays nice and firm, etc - just like it is supposed to work fromt he start but doesnt - due to the drums and shit sloppy oem calipers in front.
if anyone wants to ask me anything, pls email me via real email and i will be glad to spew any info i have, and help out any way i can.
i'm pretty tired of the bs and demonstrated ignorance here.

it's my huge something....
and i can't make my manufacturer get off his ass from across the country, swaybar wise.
feel free to try to get someone to tool up from scratch for a part that might sell perhaps 200 units over a lifetime, with minimal profit. i gave up on them.
which is why i installed a unit from a 98up truck, which helped a bit, tho less then i woulda liked, and less then the unit i had planned would've.
any other smart ass questions?

For any of you guys interested in keeping your ABS, but Need to have the module replaced, I was in the same situation. I took 2 hours of my time and dismantled the ABS unit. I had nothing to loose it was already fucked(throwing a code, that lead to the replacement of module) In my case. The actual computer part that is help on by the tamper proof torx screw, was fine. I took apart every valve and cleaned every screen in the bloody thing. And it fixed it, been using it now for over a year, no codes. Youll see a normal relay inside the unit that could fuck up, and you have to spend $1000 for a replacement, just change the relay. So for guys that want to keep there ABS but dont want to spend $1000 on a new unit, take the old one apart and fix it. If any of the valves are screwed you could alway swap the valve sections out of another ST unit. I personally like the ABS because this is the first vehical I had with it. Just thought I would pass this on for anyone that was in my situation. Fern Sy#477

fern, thats excellent advice - moderator - oughta go to the vault.
i did the same thing to my used one i bought off a lister a year or so ago that proved to throw codes also - major cleaning, all has been well since.
i dont think i would do it to a customer car due to liability issues, but i cant sue myself!!

if i get a wall plaque with the award, i could snap some pics for you.
it'll be ground level tho - my jack is holding up the mustang at the moment.
