Nice job. Back to black will also clean up the elephant ears (mirrors). Wet sand the tail pipe tips, then use Mother's wheel polish. It won't look like chrome, but stainless cleans up nice.

no have'nt clean the motor bay!!!! yet! but i will be doing that next, and yes, it used a whole bottle of back to black, that stuff works sweet!!!!!!!! looking good hugh! and thanks for all the good feedback from you guys, you guys were hard to please, but dam i still can't believe i got this truck for that price and how i came up on it. i found out they auctioned it, in a small town and nobody wanted it because it was a 91 and dirty and cladding was all dull and faded, but i think they got it for a couple of grand, so thats why he sold it me for 3200.00 and still made a profit, but they didnt know what they had. i drove it last night and power braked and let that turbo kick in and there she went pull me to the back of the seat and dam that thing went, there so quick!!!!!!!!! sorry guys i just so happy i got this truck to me its like the (holy grail of trucks) and thanks guys for your complements!!!!

Nice job on the detail work!! I think we all wish that we could stumble upon a find like that!!!! It is sort of fun to take something that looks rough and turn it into a clean-looking rig after a day or two of cleaning and a few dollars. Congrats!

Right on. About 10-12 years ago I bought my wife a 1986 Isuzu I-Mark that she just had to have,
Paint looked like chalk and the plastic was faded.

8 hours later you could read a newspaper in the paint and the plastic looked brand new. (back to black rules)

I got no doubt I doubled the value of that car with some elbow grease. ****er looked new.

Re: Luckiest Man-After Pics

Good call Jimmy. Each year, I like buying used DD car/truck and detailing the heck out of it after I buy it. After a few months of driving it and taking care of it, you can typically make a couple bucks or break even...sort of like renting the car for free! :) It truly amazes me that many people do not wash their rigs on a consistent basis or really try to clean them up to help the sale. Based on the pictures of martygar8's truck, I bet he essentially added thousand of dollars on to the value of his Sy after his exterior detail job (granted he got a steal in the first place).

I see your truck has TX plates. Do you live in TX? If so where?

Re: Luckiest Man-After Pics

I tried some "simple green" on my motor then hosed it off, maybe work it around with a soft brush in your case.

ZOINKS! What a difference
icon_eek.gif
! Looks SWEET
2_thumbs_up_-_animated.gif
! You can detail my truck anytime
icon_wink.gif
! Even though the new year just started, I would say that you got the "deal of the year" hands down. I don't see anyone topping that one anytime soon... Most of us had to pay five figures easy to get into the "club".

I for one, am glad that you got it. Especially since you have shown that you a willing to take care of it and give it the respect that it deserves. There are fewer and fewer of these trucks on the road every year. It's GREAT to know others are out there are trying to preserve them and not just drive them into the ground.

CONGRATS and welcome to the forum !

With regards to the rim refinishing, you can read about it here. I am going to see if the author of that thread will send me the pics so that I can host them.
