Made it to Vegas in one piece

Well a 14ft U-haul, tow dolly, Syclone swinging in the breeze, snow, 40mph cross winds and 14 hours drive time and its over.

Crappy drive across Interstate 40, especially through AZ. It snowed at Flagstaff and they were nice enough to salt the freaking roads. The cross wind had me fighting to keep from getting pushed off the right shoulder. All in all I'd never do that again, especially with the Sy on the tow dolly. Too much work and worry hoping it wouldnt fall off or flip over on the road. Unfortunately the military doesnt ship POVs state to state and I was kinda left to my own devices so I had to tow it behind the Uhaul.

When I was hooking the drive shaft back up I could see that the whole underside of the truck was covered in nice salt residue. Half a gallon of simple green, a garden sprayer, a pressure washer and a few hours later and she is once again salt free. Good news for me was that the underside of the body was rust free to include the cab and bed mounts, less work for the resto.

Best part is escaping Clovis New Mexico, 6 years I was stationed in that miserable place.

You cant even see the truck from the mirrors unless you are turning, all I saw were the stupid orange fenders on the dolly. Yeah, I kept seeing visions of the Sy rolling off the freeway and into a field. The Uhaul wasnt too bad, it was 4 months old and had a V10. It would do 70 but I was chicken to go over 65 with the dolly on the back and the cross wind throwing me into the rubble strips every so often. :rotf:

New Mexico had its nice spots but Eastern NM is not one of them. I cant beleive how big Vegas has got in just the last two years. So much construction its amazing.

Re: Made it to Vegas in one piece

Congrats on the trip man, I made a similar horror trip on my way back from Missouri to Connecticut last month. The kid driving was a maniac and drove entirely too fast, we did almost 100mph the whole way out there which was hairy enough without my Bravada on the back. Mind you we were in a quad cab 8 ft bed F350 Powerstroke towing a 22 ft landscaping trailer. In Ohio and Pennslyvania we hit a massive ice storm through the night and this wacko was still doing 60 mph over an inch of ice just because the big rigs were doing it. Let me tell you having a blow out at 60 mph going down a steep I-80 hill in PA and having the trailer kick out so far that I could almost see it out my window was the scariest thing I've experianced in a long time. Let me tell you that I won't be letting him tow any of my cars ever again, I would've been better off driving the thing back with the knock.
