the bb goes in first (on the bottom). The spring goes closest to the adjustment knob (top).
the boost comes in the bottom and pushes on the bb. the spring holds the bb down until a certain pressure (boost) is reached. Then the spring compresses enough to let the bb expose the side port and let the air through and out to the wastegate. When you turn the knob you change the spring rate and therefore change the amount of boost pressure it takes to move the bb.
