Memorial Meet - FAST / GAST

Alright. Memorial Weekend is coming up soon and its typically our annual FAST Meet.

We havent had luck trying to get together the past few times, but this is an annual meet that most everyone knows about. Plus this is early enough to make preparations.
In the past, we have meet up at Race Rock in Orlando with the local Grand National Club with some fair turnout (10 or so trucks).

My question is... would everyone like to continue meeting at Race Rock for this year or would like to see it moved? For the past few years, we have held the event in Central FL. The Memorial Meet actually started in Naples in 97 when we used to have 20+ trucks show!

Id like to see a good turnout since everyone hasnt had a chance to meet up in awhile, so this is why im asking for some feedback.

Here are some reasons to stay at Race Rock:

- central to alot of attractions, food, and hotel.
- night activity such as going to the track (Orlando Speedworld)
- for those of us who streetrace and not scared to drive our trucks, both me and ian are welcomed to a spot called "The Corner" in downtown orlando in which we usually get invited to go watch and participate in some races. Domestics mainly, SyTys do get respect while there.
- easy to find for everyone and just hang out.

Anyhow. Give me some info on what you guys want to do and I'll do my best in coordinating something. Im not opposed to moving the event southbound (Naples, Miami, etc) so speak up. I need to get some things going now in order to make things happen.

I think my answer is based on the GAST meet in SC.. :dunno:

If its close to this date I'll try and make both, but I fully expect money to be tigher then, then it is now.. so we'll see. ;)

Let me make this more clear....

I need some feedback from EVERYONE else Im not putting in effort to making any plans for an event. I'll just drive down to Miami and hang out with Gary and call the locals there to have a weekend meet and get some wrenching done.

Plus, it'll be the first time the event will be missed and not planned since 98.

Distance is usually the biggest factor .Orlando is an easy drive .

RaceRock is good for me.. It's a no brainer. I'd really like to do a park and BBQ or something like we've done in the past but I don't have the time or energy to plan it.

Make threats, get responses... ok good, this is working

Alright, so far it seems Race Rock is the place. I'll get with the GN guys and find out their plans.

Keith, I'll research to find a park/BBQ thing... what day were you thinking?

Re: Memorial Meet - FAST / GAST

We'd prolly have more luck for sunday considering there is a remote chance that some people might have to work on saturdays? I dont know. Yeah i know gas is a major factor and Orlando is centralized for the most part (sorry Gary). Yeah a park would be cool. I know there's a couple in orlando. Like the Jay Blanchard park by my old crib on dean rd.

Adam, depending on when we have the Southeast Track Day (which I'd love for FAST to attend), I may/may not show up. I'll letcha know here soon.

For me it's more of a timing factor as opposed to mileage. Obviously Naples is an hour away but as long as it fits my schedule I'll go anywhere. I'm dying to go to a meet locally(FL).

Any day is good. With the Buicks is better. Sunday is Indy.

Welp, sorta bad news.... Local GN club does not do Race Rock Memorial Weekend anymore due to their attendance. They moved it earlier so that they could have a better turnout. Last year was 48+ for them when we went to Daytona.

So... if we want to do Race Rock, we will be by ourselves. If thats the case, I wouldnt mind setting up a time and get everyone in a big long line and cruise over to Orlando Slipworld and watch some racing...or race if you feel your truck wont break (HA!) and go streetracing at night at the Corner. (again, for those who arent afraid of real driving)

Real driving = Breaking, Yeah I'm in. If it breaks bad enough I'll send it to Waller and let him fix it.

For those not on the official FAST mailing list, I will post up what Rob (Sy229) put up:

I’m in for Race Rock, but let me sweeten the deal:

What if we do the traditional morning show / lunch at Race Rock with the GN guys, then break from there and caravan West across I-4 (and hope to avoid any traffic jams) to my place for a mini-wrench session. In addition, there are a couple of other activities we could pursue in this area, including a Paint Ball excursion and/or a simple trek to the park for a picnic / barbeque or whatever.

Other Tampa-related options include Busch Gardens, Aquarium, MOSI, etc.; all of which will be crowded and require advanced planning on our part.

My response to this:

Wow, very cool and im very much down for going to Rob and Monas house.

For those who dont know, Rob and Mona have a very nice house about 30 minutes from mine that features a very large open front yard for ALOT OF TRUCKS (hint hint) and a newly completed seperate 2 car garage/bay with a lift just dying for trucks to be on it.

Plus, the yard is so big, we can easily line up the trucks and get a large variety of picture opps which we havent done in a long time.

The drive down I-4 would take roughly 45 min to an hour at most to get to Rob and Monas place from Race Rock driving at a regular driving pace. As for me, Gary and probably Ian, it'll be a cannonball run for the most part, those who experienced the last Miami meet and tried to keep up with me and Gary got a taste of what it truely is like to drive a SyTy. Gary, you'll be happy to know that most of the construction on this section of I-4 is complete

Oh, I havent posted here yet, but the GN guys are not going to be at Race Rock. They decided to move their meet earlier so that they could have more attendance, which worked for them since they had 48+ last year. But hey, theres NO REASON why we can have a showing of 25+?!

Im down for the BBQ, and I know the kids would be happy as well. MOSI is still showcasing the Bodies Exhibit, so we could always hit that up as a group maybe Sunday?. http://www.mosi.org/

What do you guys think? Race Rock then Rob and Monas for a SyTy Party?!

BTW, thank you to Rob and Mona for the extended offer of inviting everyone to their house.

What does everyone think about going this route?
