Ditto here.. Ive owned a couple of the high dollar tiltons as well but for our low compression/small displacement engines they arent worth the extra bucks IMO. CVR is more than enough for us.
Ive also heard good things about the later model big block gear reduction starters that were mentioned above. Ive got one on my tow vehicle that came stock and it seems to have no problem cranking the big block with only a decent shape ~800 CCA bat on cold mornings. It souns cool while its cranking too :wink: .

Hey Guys,
I went w the CVR also ( the HD "M" model) and am installing it now. Some Q's :
1.) It wouldn't engage to my Flexplate and I've been playing around w shims. The ones that came w it weren't enuf, so I got some more from Pep Boys. Gotta Bowtie block and a HD SFI plate.
2.) I can't seem to find the instructions - hey that's unusual - but I thought I remembered them saying that U shouldn't shim it too far. The 2 that came w the unit were only ~ 1/32" total.
3.) I now have a 1/16" shim on there and it's better, but it seems like maybe it needs another 1/32". See any problem w this ?
4.) I also noticed that the gear doesn't reach all the way across the Flex teeth - maybe about 2/3 the way. Anybody notice on theirs ?
5.) Gonna need a heat shield - the damned ATR headers (Jet Hotted) are only ~ 3/4" away and the starter wires are right there also. Anybody put a heat shield on - where'd U get it ?

i did one of these last night...i think i paid 165.00 for it...alot better than the POS that i removed from the ty...bought a ford solenoid and a big red batt cable as well, but didn't install it yet...maybe tonight....
edit: to clarify my above post^^^ installed the starter, but not the solenoid yet...seems like i don't even need the ford solenoid, by the way that starter turns the motor ...
