Mobil 1 or Royal Purple

Re: Mobil 1 or Royal Purple

Thanks everyone for the inputs, I got a lot more replies than I thought for. Thanks to Doug especially, I believe you made me vote for Mobil 1 also. I know there are a lot of good oils out there, and different people have different opinions on what is best. It is nice to have a good group of knowledgeable people out there to take time and share their opinions. Again greatly appriciated!

Yes and yes. You actually want a zero weight for the winter but many people have been using in the summer with no issues including AZ. Read the GC FAQ I posted earlier.

For the people that are posting about all the miles using Mobil 1, remember the new spec happened not along ago so the older M1 may of done a great job in the past, but the newer M1 with the newer spec may not. 0-40 M1 is the exception though. I'd much rather run 0-40 M1 that does not have the newer spec than the 10-30 M1 that has less ZDDP. They are taking out important properties of oil that will make the engine last longer but hey, at least your cat. converter will be okay... Just read the articles to see for yourself.

Another one:

M1 chart on oils with zinc (phosphorus levels)

Its all about the Euro spec. I really think the bottom line is using an oil that does not have the "energy conserving" stamp in it

After watching HorsepowerTV do a test with Royal Purple I will use that from now on. All they did was change the fluids to Royal Purple and picked up something like 7hp and 10ft/lbs (can't remember the exact numbers)

I've seen bearing scuff tests done with something like 20 different oils, including Mobil 1. Royal Purple street oil did WAY better than the other oils, and the racing blends were even better than that.

I will be running this once both my engines get broke in
http://www.cen-pe-co.com/

We have been using it at my work for over 10 yrs now. This oil is very famous around farmers and truck and tractor pullers.
Like everyone has said the oil manufactures are pulling all the good additives out and making the oil worse than it was 5 yrs ago but not this oil.
We had a 92 lumina 3.1 that had 250k on it, regularly beaten on by the workers and we pulled the engine to replaced oil pan gaskets etc and give the engine a once over. Pulled the intake and no sludge what so ever, pulled the bearings and they didnt even have any marks on them:tup:
Threw new gaskets at it and down the road it goes.
Also all our work vehicles get 15w-40 even that lumina.
We also have a '97 f-250 with the 5.4 overhead cam engine which is suppose to have 5w-30 in it to get the oil to the cams right away, its ran 15w-40 since day one and has over 285k and still going.
This oil sticks to everything where as most synthetic falls back into the pan giving you dry starts all the time.
Our oil rep said the only thing synthetic oil has going for it is a good marketing campaign.

Once my dad gets his oil temp gauge installed on his truck we are going to check the difference in oil temps as the rep says there oil runs much cooler also.
He says mobil 1 is one of the worst oils to use, they have run many tests on it.

Thats my :2cents: worth:D
