What is the best bass setup you can fit behind the seats of a syclone? Would a pair of 10's work and are there boxes custom built for behind the seats?

You can fit 10s behind the seat, i built a custom box for mine, just used 1 10 tho, because i wouldnt have had room for my amps if i would have put 2 back there. i have since moved past that tho, ported bed to mount a 1000+ watt dvc 12 and moving amps to bed as well.

I'm looking at the soundstream picasso's the 10 and 12 both require 5 inch depth so I'd most likely be going for one 12 if it fit and aim it towards the front of the car. Or if there isn't 5+1 1/2 inch(for box wood thickness) 6 1/2 then i'd try to 10's pointing at the sides of the truck.

If you are talking about behind the seat of a SY, good luck!!!!! It was all i could do to get a memphis 10 facing forward, I even used 1/2in board and glassed the inside to help with box strengh, im short (5'8") so the seat isnt all the way back or the seat still would have hit the box. I think the top part of the box was only a couple of inches thick and was tapered. im not even sure you can turn an 8 sideways back there without doing some glasswork and angle it somewhat toward the front, there is a thread on that type of box on this forum.

Well the memphis 10 inch dual voice coil requires 5 inch mountin depth so if you got it to work .... I'm hoping that the 12 inch picasso which also requires only 5 inch mounting depth will work as well. I'm 5'9 yay for shorties!

I have one very underpowered jl 10w3 dual 4 ohm sub. I want to take it out and go with 3 pioneer premier 12in shallow mount subs or 4 10 inch shallow mount subs. almost 2 inches shallower than my jl. that or take out the center console and go with 3 jl 6w0 6 inch subs fireing down to the floor board. not sure which way i will go yet.

The problem with sub in a Sy (regular cab) is they sound muffled if they are fired into the seat or back of the cab. Not musical at all. I have my 8 sticking between my seats and above my console. I like Jon dual 8's at angle. I also would mind try 2 or 3 6's at at angle. I personally would do 8's in the doors if I didn't care about cutting the metal of the doors. If you really don't care a blow thru to the bed would also work.

I was thinking about getting the picaso 12 and mounting it in between the driver/pass seats facing towards the front as it only requires 5 inch mounting depth and i'd run it sealed anyhow so no worries about vents.

Re: Most bad ass dual voice coil woofer in a syclone?

I have the RFW 10's in my silverado and love the sound of them. But there is alot to know about Bass. It aint just as simple as throw an amp and woofer in the trunk and bang away. I have and have used a fair amount of Soundstream stuff. They are really good.

Some things you need to think about with woofers,

What kind of music? Rap and bassy music like big boomy boxes (max air space requemended for the speaker with poly fill) Metal like tight small boxes (min air space)

Amount of space you have to work with? You have to give the woofer room to breath, you cant muffle tooo much, it willl cause sound problems (wave cancelation and other cone restritions can overheat the voice coil). So the front of the woofer needs at least 2 inches of air do to the Xmax (cone movement, always double the spec they give as that is a one way movement only), and dont forget about the cone suround. It overlaps on these woofers. My 10's throw about an inch or better at low frequency (40-55hz) and sorround overlaps the mounting ring about1/4 inch at rest and more at low throw. Another thing to is the mounting depth is missleading do to needing an extra inch or more on the back of the woofer because of the vent for the voice coil.

The biggest thing about Bass to remember is it's all about space and air. Give it what it wants as long as you have it to give.

P.S. Wood also takes up space(thickness) and you should acount for that. The requemended airspace is at INTERNAL air space.

I would consider porting the bed and doing a blow through with 2 12's. Once the Bass bug bites it's hard to be happy

Thats what im doing but probably just the one 12 tarantula, and 1000 watts to it. 8's and 10's just dont cut it sometimes :rotf:
