Re: My budget LQ4/4L80E build! update, way over budget, 9's or bust!
*WINTER UPGRADES*
After lots of driving and some racing this summer, I figured out some things that I want/need to upgrade before going any faster. To start off, was having a fuel pressure problem where my stock LS truck regulator couldn't keep up with my new fuel pump. It couldn't regulate the pressure below 75psi idling, which only got higher, 1:1 with boost. So about a month ago I got a new regulator and hooked it up using fittings I had utilizing the stock LS truck fuel rails.
I have ran this with since right after Nats. While it functions perfectly it was not very good looking. So I decided to upgrade my intake and fuel rails which I have wanted to do for the last 2 years. Here is a pic of the new setup, it should look familiar as there are two other LSx SyTys with this setup.
The intake/rails were pretty cheap for what you get. I paid $405 for the intake and $125 for the fuels from an online speed shop. So, with that said, here a pic of the engine bay as it has been for a while now.
Along with the intake, I will be doing lots of other updates. This will consist of putting in a non-a/c heater box so I can redo my down pipe. The 4" down pipe is just too tight of a fit in there with the 275s up front. You can see from this pic, it rubs on the down pipe when the wheel is turned to the right and I hit a bump.
You can also see that I had to clearance my control arm quite a bit to fit my coilovers(true 2.5" springs). So I will be making some tubular upper control arms. Still trying to source some poly bushings that use a metric sleeves(suggestions???) Right now the plan is to get a carbon fiber box from Mr King, just need to save some money for that.
To go along with all of this new stuff I will be doing aluminum intake tubing with the left over stuff from the Ty's intake and an aluminum core support. The support is one of the crap ones that Keith(?) made. We got it with the Ty so I will be heavily modding it to use on the Sy.
After work today i tore into it and got this far into mocking up the intake to see how much i will need to rework my wiring harness.
And here is a pic of all the stuff that I took off of it. (the blower box had to be removed in pieces do to me not wanting to move my motor to pull it out in one piece.)
After all this is done, I will be upgrading boost controllers and I will be using all braided line for my vacuum lines. We moved my tru-boost to Roys Sy about two weeks ago so I will be going to a real nice race controller. Right now I am looking at a AMS1000 but Im trying to hold out till the 2000 comes out to see the price on that. After all this, if I have time/money Im going to put a 10pt in the truck. I getting tired of only being able to go to one track here and having to lie to the tech when Im there.
