My first couple of days as a Ty owner

I officially took ownership on Saturday morning and had it flatbedded back. I had some weird sense of pride when I went to have the registration/title done and the woman behind the counter asked, "Is this a Typhoon or a Jimmy?" I got to say for the first time, with a huge grin, "It's a Typhoon".

When the flatbed driver showed up he was like, "Damn, I've never actually seen one of these in person". I took it out for the first time and at the first red light two guys asked if it was a real Typhoon. I stopped for gas and it was like a one car-car show at the pump. I went to Pep Boys for some essentials and some kid, who I would not have really thought looked like he would have the slightest clue as he got out of his Fast and Furious VW Golf- "Hey man, is that a real Typhoon?" Yeah, it is. "Sweet! F*ckin sweet!" Couple other people walking in and out did double takes. Over the course of the next day I had quite a few people in vettes/stangs/f-bodies/sport trucks that use my street as a cut through to another main road slow down to look or even turned around to make another pass to check it out. I had many more looks and comments on Sunday as well.

While I don't really care for the attention personally, and was not any reasoning behind buying it (unlike some older vette owners), I can't help it happening because this truck is a total rock star. After driving nothing but f-bodies for the last 22 years, I have to say that not only do I enjoy knowing that I finally own a Typhoon, but I genuinely thought it was comfortable ride, I dig the seats, the aesthetics....pretty much everything. It just fits me. It has it's bugs/gremlins/unknowns right now, so I didn't hammer it at all, I couldn't help but get a little geeked out when I felt the boost under normal driving/acceleration. Looking forward to getting some things sorted out and driving it everyday.

Damn, I love this thing already.

The End.

Congratulations. In three years of ownership I've only had 6 or 7 random people notice my Typhoon. Part of the reason might be because I don't have decals on it.

Something to consider if you'd prefer some anonymity.

Funny you guys have mentioned the theft part of it...I have had some general paranoia over the years depending on what part of a city I was parking my TA's in from time to time, but I have to admit that after a few weeks of reading around on this board it really made me generally paranoid to even park at my house or general area owning this now, and it's not even a big car theft area in any sense.

I decided yesterday that I am most likely going to remove the decals. I'm fine knowing it's a Ty and don't need to advertise it to anybody else. Same goes for any kind of pillar gauges. I need to decide on some kind of stealth boost gauge install. I'll have a magnetic "decal" made for the tailgate for when I want to show or whatever. It came with an alarm on it but I have to check out the exact specs on it and I even threw and old school club on it for good measure today as I left it sitting at home. I'll probably disable it a couple of ways as well while I know it will be sitting.

Good call on the ECM fuse. I wouldn't mind a broken window/messed up door lock as long as it's still there when I get back.

I wouldn't use the Club. They'll still steal (or attempt to steal) the truck and destroy a Typhoon/Sonoma GT specifc steering wheel in the process.

Not that I think they are a fail proof, but could just be too much work to the more casual thief of sorts that's looking for the quick heist.

This. Jeff helped create one for me on my truck while I was up there on Saturday morning. Took just a few minutes to install it and even if they break the column again, it's not going to start. "Gone in 60 seconds" for these trucks should be revised to "Gone in 10 seconds".

Surprised you got so much attention in such a short amount of time! I think that "younger guys" are getting more aware of what they are because of things like them being in Forza.

Best comment I ever heard was at a gas station when dude yelled out to someone at the pump next to them "THAT THING IS FASTER THAN A LAMBORGHINI" while pointing at my hooptie.

Maybe, but a steering wheel can be cut with a hacksaw in less than a minute; even quicker with a small battery powered saw.

Not asking you to give secrets away, but can you elaborate a little on how a setup would work?

Same here only a handful of people in three years of ownership and I prefer it that way.

I would keep the decals and do as others have suggested to prevent the theft.

the number of occasions where the Ty was recognized as 'something special' can be counted on the fingers of one hand. You had more acknowledgements the first day than I've had in 15 years.

x2 (in my 8 years)

I wasn't too surprised, except for the attention from the ricers/kids. Growing up in this area there were always a lot of Birds/Camaros/Stangs/trucks running around, so enough people from around that same generation at least have an idea of what they are if/when they see one here I suppose.

Re: My first couple of days as a Ty owner

In the 6 years I have owned my truck I think I have gotten 1 thumbs up on the highway when my truck was in the best shape it has ever been.

Now that it needs a paintjob I dont even get people glancing in my direction anymore.

At the last 6 car shows I went to I had one guy say " I used to own a truck like that " , and on the Hot Rod Power Tour I probably had 1 person in each of the cities we went to say something about it, thats all.

Congrats on the truck!!! ---

This year I have gotten more recognition of my Syclone than I did in my previous 10 years of ownership.
