following the custom installers usual technique

I have used polyester/spandex cloth and have 2 coats of resin on it
should I
a) glass it with fiberglass mat etc or
b) do the 50/50 mix with bondo and resin then sand it etc

IMO do both . The spandex alone doesnt have the stiffness to resist cracking just being soaked with resin . See if you can reinforce it with fiberglass matte or cloth from the underside so it doesnt grow too much in size . Then apply a thin coat of bondo type filler to the outside so you can smooth it out . At least thats how I do it anyway .

Are you going to paint this or wrap it in vinyl ?

Your not gonna be standing on it. Reinforce it where the screws will go through (unless your velcroing) and bondo it and be done. If it were an exterior part or a speaker box, you would've had have done the inside for reinforcement.

I agree it doesnt have to be real sturdy , but it does have to be strong enough to withstand cracking from the handling and pushing on it when hand sanding the bondo . Scuffing it up so the filler can adhere to it will probably burn into the spandex alone .

Wow, that's a lot of gauges :eek:! I have five too but, it's broken up over a triple pillar pod. If you run dual gauges, you could have 10 data points. What are you going to run? Looks good :cool:!

FYI Speaker grill cloth works the best stretchs in all directions and holds the resin. For added strenth if needed mix up a batch of bondo with its hardner mixed together then mix with fiberglass resin and its hardner 60% resin 40% bondo we call this a milkshake poor in the spots you need strenth in and let dry That shit is as hard as concrete!! Heres a pic of a impalla ss were working on in the trunk;

Looking good :cool:! My bud has ATR heaters on his syclone with bungs on each primary so that he could monitor the EGT for each cylinder if he wanted. So that would be six data points right there...
