will that battery fit in a relocation kit or do you have to fabricate your own to put it lower in the wheel well, under the intake???

the battery will fit in any type of relocation box bc it's smaller than any regular battery:cool: . you will need to make sure it cant move around. if you put it in a box you can order the one without the metal case and save another 0.5 lbs. :)

The gold bracket that holds the shifter lever is pretty heavy. Im sure something could be done here to lighten it up.... Hole saw, whatever.

There are a lot of different tire options if you want to go still lighter...
slicks would be 4-5# lighter per wheel.

Be advised, I think there's a rule saying you can't run slicks on the
front of a AWD/4wd vehicle.

What the world needs is a kevlar-belted lightweight radial...

later,

Dig

Here's an idea (not cheap at 200$/tire...but) the hoosier auto cross tire A3S05(R3S05 is roaD RACE) is 21# versus 27-30# for a stock 245/50 non competition, but z rated tire... and you are safe and legal running em on front too ...Plus the new hot wheels "sixty-eight" 16X8.5 rim (nice look to it)on discount tiredirect is a light wheel and only 137$ per rim for full polish camaro version. with these two rim and tire changes , one Could likely remove about 25# of rotating mass in comparison to the stock setup, avoid running slicks up front, have plenty of 60ft traction and be able to haul ass around corners on the way to the strip!

Re: My Lightweight Syclone

on the wheel subject...I was VERY surprised when I weighed my new (to me) sawblade wheels. they each weigh about 15#!!! That's lighter than the ssr's. Some of the zr1 knock offs weigh upwards of 26# don't they?!

15 lbs for a cast aluminum OE 17'" wheel? Are you sure your scale weighs correct?

Here's a good find.

Aluminum body saginaw quick ratio racing steering box. Saves 16 lbs. I'm told! It will set you back nearly $1200.00.

Re: My Lightweight Syclone

after reading this I wonder.

I never thought about weighing my truck. hmmm

I have an aluminum radiator, spare tire removed, A/C removed, exhaust shortened...

I wonder what it weighs

Re: My Lightweight Syclone

Maybe down the road this will help in this weight loss quest.......But I'm nearing the end of plugging a stock SY hood for IvankoBarbell for a full CF bolt-on race hood. Should come in near 8-13lbs braced with full substructure.
Next is a Sy 2" cowl hood for CF bolt-on.(donar in stock)
Then Sy full CF tailgate with full substructure ( weight yet unknown, aiming at useful/sitting weight of 12lbs.)(race 4-6 lbs)Donar part in stock.
I've got a prepped Drivers fender, need a good Passenger in order to begin those for CF.
PPRESS donated a full SY bed that I could use but the passenger side is toast, the inside etc. is great.( big project, but doable for max weight loss,$$$ ??)
Bed cover with new SY type design is in the works for CF too.
I also have set aside several Interior bits that I felt would be attractive if done.
All of these projects are designed and engineered for Resin Infusion Vacuum ( NOT open mold wet lay-up which is resin rich, brittle and heavy)
Infusion built into my molds allows for the most perfect Resin to cloth weight ratios and strengths. But the tooling and consumables aren't inexpensive so please ...no comments on "how much'?? ;) ...it is what it is....I can't help that.
CF is justifiable for some ....Fiberglass for others.

Bear in mind......open mold, wet lay-up glass parts are only slightly lighter than their steel counter parts. In full form anyway.
Weight savings for the effort needs to be maximum whilst not losing ANY strength or trueness/straightness/waviness.

Lets hope so for my wallets sake. I've blown a ton of cash on collecting up all the parts and materials for building these molds. It took me years to get a full extra set of cladding that was nice to use as plugs for molding too. :(
I do still need the passenger side rocker to begin prepping for plugs though if anyone is in a giving mood ? ;)
Theoretically, I should be able to build a FULL bed with floor and inner substructure including double walls and wells under 60lbs.73lbs. includes a full double walled gate w/cables.
Can you imagine ?! Resin Infusion deffinatly makes alot of things possible for weight and strength. Near F1 race quality for our flippin' trucks. :D

My VFN fiberglas cowl hood is half the weight of my stock steel one. I'm sure that the paper thin (yes that is light shining through my brand new hood several years ago before it got painted) construction and pin hole or two if you look close enough all help keep the weight down .

Should have bought a steel Goodmark hood instead...
