My Mccoy experience

Anyhow, since there are more McCoy stories going around and some people have been claiming me as not posting what happened I will now. I've been avoiding the board for some time just because of frustration w/ the typhoon. But I see that people are still talking about it so I think I should clear some things up.

This is just pure information of my story.

First off I had my ty rebuilt in San Jose w/ a reputable shop. I had McCoy build me a performance plus motor. Upon receiving it at the shop first thing they thought was that it wasn't built to quality standards. valve cover wasn't put on correctly, there were many metal flakes inside the motor, and other small things that made people wonder "is this quality". Anyhow, so i called McCoy about this and first thing he responded was "there's no way you could tell if there were metal flakes unless you tore down the motor." my response "yea, we did tear it down." anyhow, so this is where the "rev-kit" comes in. this shop gave me options to install a rev-kit. i said to go ahead with it. so, after my ty was done, every oil change i noticed that there were a lot of metal deposits on the drain plug. i asked mccoy and he wasn't sure, he said that it was normal at first. granted, if you want to believe me or not, i don't drive it hard and rarely get into boost. later, because i didn't believe it was normal, i decided to take it into another shop. this shop is in washington state. they first decided to take apart my turbo to see if anything happened there. they found out that the turbo was damaged from the metal shavings. they said that it is most likely in my motor and i'll have to have a rebuild. after further taking it apart it was true, i needed another rebuild. this shop actually knows mccoy because they do turbo work for them. so they called up mccoy and talked about it. there were many metal flakes in the motor before the rev kit, but possibly the rev-kit created even more metal shavings. who knows... either way at the end i wont point the blame to either shop. i will just leave it at that and know who to deal with in the future. as of now i had this shop in washington do everything, including the rebuild for me, and as of now the motor is good and there are no problems at all so far.

OK, ya lost me here........ What exactly is a "REV-KIT" ? I assume some assortment of parts to allow higher RPMS ????? Yes ? No ?

What gives.. And, if you found metal shavings in motor when you tore it down the 1st time why didn't you take pictures and send them to McCoy?

Why install something that has metal flakes ?

Help, I'm trying to understand why someone would install an engine they are concerned may go south.

McCoy seems pretty reasonable with my limited experiences with him. I am having problems understanding where all this is coming from....

I can just as easily see your local shop feeding you BS to gouge you for more money vs McCoy building you a bad motor. You let the local shop open the motor up, its all on them at that point. The right thing to do would have been to address your concerns with your original builder before authorizing any subsequent work by another shop. If the local shop opened the motor up, then put it back together, any further metal shavings was a result of something they caused, or something they missed..... No comment on the "Rev-Kit" other than that it throws in one more variable. Blaming McCoy for your motor's problem may not be 100 percent warranted.
Good luck,
