On friday it was raining/snowing i pulled out of a gas station hit some black ice slid sideways and then over corrected then over corrected again ending up completely sideways in the opposite lane and a brand new mercedes hit my right front side at 45 mph i did a complete 360 and stoped in the middle of the road. My g/f was in the truck with me and she was on the side that got hit. She hit her face on the window and brused her cheak and she has wiplash. We were both wearing our seat belts and were both ok. The other driver is ok too. I feel like such a chump because i over corrected twice. I have been more sideways in my old 73 chevy truck playing around and still got it straight. I dont even play around in the syclone cause i wanted to keep it nice. I was just wondering on what you guys think i should do. Should i buy it back. ill post pics tomarrow cause im getting me stuff out of it. I really dont even wanna see it.

Well, at least your all right. I would buy it back. One thing about AWD is it scares me when it get sideways. Its slides around more vs posi rwd vehicle. I have also found it tends to be less controllable going sideways taking lefts turns as well vs right hand turns. (I think because of the open front differential and the vehicle rotating on that tire, negative most of its traction.)

Re: My syclone is totaled

how bad is the damage? Call me crazy but I'd see if you can't sell it for a rebuild ... although it's probably worth more as parts

The truck is definately worth more in parts, although buying back the wreck and rebuilding it can be a great experience. I just went through the whole process with my Ty when I totalled it in November of '04. On Sunday I pulled it out of the garage and the neighbor's 7 year old kid pointed the truck out to his friend and said "He built that himself." Proud moment for me.

When looking at what has happened to you and your gf (and your truck), things could have turned out much worse. I am sincerely glad to hear that you guys are alright. It also sucks because you haven't had the truck very long... it was clean, too. I hope you either rebuild or buy another. Need advice pm me.

P.S. Don't part out your truck, yet. Take some time to decide what you really want to do.

I strongly second that. I've had mine come loose on me a few times (once around 100mph) and the pucker factor is extremely high. I tell everyone it's like a trying to control a corkscrew.

Glad you and your girlfriend didn't suffer more serious injuries, it obviously could have been much worse. Even though you are irritated/hurt right now, you should definitely buy it back to either rebuild or part out.

Re: My syclone is totaled

I discovered AWD first in a talon I had and found out that if you leave your foot in it (not possible all the time) it is easier to drive out of the slide. I have had only a few experiences with my Ty, and those led to problem things like new tires and a rebuilt front suspension no crashes, just loose/bad parts).

Good luck with the truck - I've a firm believer in buying a car if you wreck it - there's always a chance those parts will fit elsewhere... And I have also found that these trucks are worth more in parts. That's too bad, we all should figure out how to change this issue.

Re: My syclone is totaled

speaking from experience...

go to costco and pick up an economy sized tub of KY, then head over to sporting goods and get yourself a baseball bat, and some protective gear. You will need all of this when battling the insurance company. Doesn't matter if its your company or theirs both will definitely try to fvck you. Start searching the net now and get as much info as you possibly can on the value of these trucks. Get tons of info proving that they are limited product and considered a collectors item. Then do a search on auto trader and print out every ad, so they can see how much it will cost to replace your truck. if the total it, they WILL low ball you. Since your truck has about 80k on it... i would expect an offer from them of around 8-8500. Even 9000 is not enough for you to buy another truck and you need to explain to them. I guess the only good thing about the insurance low balling you is that you can buy it back cheaper. But still, youre gonna spend 15-20% buying it back... so whats the leave you with? 7000? even if you part out your truck thats a helluva lot of work to tear it down box up parts and ship em... just to get enough money to get another truck... thats time and labor you are not getting paid for.

If the frame is bent... then its a 50/50 call... sure its fixable... but no matter what, the truck will never feel the same to you. A frame swap is another thing to consider, but again thats a helluva lot of work too... So my advice, get as much info as possible and really think things through before you make your decision.

Trust me man if you love your truck anywhere near as much as i do, the fact that youre ok from the accident means nothing hahaha i remember my parents saying well the important thing is that youre ok... and im thinkin eff that! my goddamn truck is all eff'd up!!!!! and that period of time that you cant drive your truck seems like an eternity. you'll get on here reading threads in the kills section or about socal syty meets and get even more pissed off that you cant drive your truck. Believe me man i only got to enjoy my truck for 3 weeks before i got hit, and then it sat at the body shop for over 9 months! So i feel your pain!

Best of luck to ya man!

PS if insurance decides to fix it... battle them tooth and nail till they agree to paint the entire truck and all of the cladding!! Make sure you make it clear to them that no matter how good the shop is thats doing the work, you cannot match 15 year old paint. Getting them to agree to paint the cladding should be a piece of cake, just have the adjuster come out and look at a new piece of cladding and the cladding on your truck and say look man it doesnt match! (new cladding from the dealer is not painted and you can defintely see the difference)

I have found in slide in manuals, usually the best course of action to put it in neutral or part throttle to match speed (usually pretty difficult in the heat of the moment). If you have some speed, powering through it usually seems to works better than taking your foot off the gas (but sometime you put yourself in a worse situation with more speed and or tires spin) By taking your foot off the gas pedal in poor traction (or side ways), the tire could be going slower than vehicle speed from engine braking. This creates a situation simillair to locking up the brakes up in the rain, further agiatating the car making it more uncontrollable. I don't think this is as big a problem in auto's because the transmission would upshift the torque converter provides a some cushion between the tire and engine.
