My Ty went up in flames

What ever it takes!!
Re: My Ty went up in flames

Aboss-

Mine started a flame at the starter (twice). I had it wrapped with heat blanket. The blanket had some oil soaked in it from leaks and such. When I re-installed the starter cables they were arching and making contact with the aluminium tape I used on the starter. I was very lucky to have been there while it was happening.

how much would you offer to buy the truck back to part it out? or should I not do that and let them take it all

dont let them take it, if you cant sell it as a whole, at least part it out to those who actually need parts to get theirs back on the road. I hate to see them sacrified and parted, but if it means putting trucks back on the road, then so be it.

I would wait to see what they offer you. I would think it would be in the $1000-1500 range then I would buy it back. However, I know of a few SyTyer have buyouts of 4000-6000 then forget it. You also might get it really cheap. When my wife prelude was totalled it, the insurance company offer me $50. Tthe damage was cosmetic, It was still legal driveable with a just an hour worth of work a few lights ($20) I sold it to a friend for $1000.

Ditto. I would like to this truck rise from the ashes. However if it doesn't happen, it would be a shame to go to waste at the mercy of the crusher...

That fire is par with every other engine fire that I have seen happen in these trucks. Even a small fire does BIG damage.

When it comes to fire extinguishers, bigger is better:

When I first got my typhoon I remember reading about all the engine fires, so I bought a small fire extinguisher and I keep it in the stock location where the tire jack is.

Buy it back, and either fix it yourself or sell it to someone who will.

I feel your pain man. It's DEFINITELY totalled - mine was, and it wasn't near as bad as yours.

FWIW they gave me around 13 for mine (less than what I had recpts for) but they sold it back to me for next to nothing, so I just called it a wash instead of raising hell. It'll be at Nats this year come hell or high water.

Good luck with it, I know what you're about to go through and it's a real PITA.

Re: My Ty went up in flames

Rebuild it!! The trucks I checked out were way, way worse: from the firewall back, there was nothing. Paint burned off the bodies, only seat frames and garbage inside, and a melted mass of wires and dashboard. Your truck is definately fixable, don't take another one off the road.
