Re: Myclone Donation

The part that E said is true. Dave had never changed anything over. I guess we thought we all had time. Virgina law is a strange thing. Dave handled everything , he was a man's man so to speak. There was also no will so in the state of Virginia I can't touch anything including money in the bank for a year. The hardest part isn't the worry that someone is gonna come kick me out of my home. It is that he isn't here with me in it. I haven't been able to walk into the garage at all or even sleep in our bed. I am going to try to go back to work on Monday. I know this my seem strange, I can have a house full of friends and I still feel lonely. I watched my mom get a hug and kiss from her "friend" and it made me mad , because Dave isn't here anymore to do that to me. I want to scream this is so wrong and unfair, and why couldn't I have been taken with him. It just hurts so much.

HI Lisa,

Hang in there. I can't imagine the pain and the emptyness you feel. Right now you need to lean on your family and friends as much as you can they will be your support and help you through this. Going back to work will also help to take your mind off life in general.

If you need anything we will be here for you.

Re: Myclone Donation

I've wanted to add something that most people don't think about when they are young. Eight years ago I married my wife Jacqueline and we decided we were going to have kids. When our first daughter was born I realized that I should consider getting life insurance. Even though I was healthy and thought nothing could ever happen to me.

Well, 3 years later we found out that I had Thyroid cancer. Lucky me it wasn't the aggressive kind but cancer nonetheless. When I got diagnosed with it I thought I would call my insurance agent and see if I could increase my coverage just in case something changed. Being a good friend he laughed and said sure we can increase your coverage but it will cost you a boatload of money more to increase your coverage. I even asked if we could change it before it hit my medical record. He said not a good ideas as it would void my policy if they ever found out.

In the end I've had the first surgery and it was successful however the second and final surgery I needed is not an option so they will have to do radiation treatments. We are hoping that the first radiation treatment is a success as I am not looking forward to having more then one treatments.

What's most important is that you can plan that you are going to be here till your 100 you can only hope you will live that long? Medical bills are a killer if you not prepared last year mine were close to $50,000 and my health insure has gone up so high that I laugh when I get the bill.

So when your young and healthy spend the $500.00 a year for a good life insurance policy and try to save $100.00 extra a month and put it in a saving account just for possible medical bills or other unforeseen things. One day you may be very happy that you've done such a thing.

Thanks again everyone for being so generous and I am glad I am part of this community.

Renz,

I am adding a 2nd donation since the kitty is still open and today is payday.

Long live Myclone. :myclone:
I know Dave would have dug deep to help anyone of his many friends here.

*Marty is right on the life ins.
Once you have a family and you are supporting more than just you and your truck it becomes more important to make arrangements.
Besides the earlier in life you buy life insurance and the more you buy early on the cheaper it is.

Marty,
That is great advice and something a lot of people don't want to think about or spend their money on. Right now I am lucky that i am covered through my policy at work for enough for my family to be comfortable for a while should something happen. After you sick it is very hard to get insurance at all. I hope that you make a 100 % recovery!

I'd like to add my .02 regarding life insurance, and you all can PM me w/ comments/questions as this is not the appropriate thread, but

1. I hope you get a personal policy away from work NC. What happens if you get sick, can't go to work, then get fired? You will most likely lose your coverage. Lock in the rate when you are young and put your savings elsewhere.

2. Like the majority of consumer advocates and "finance people" stick w/ a Term policy. Cash value life insurance or "Whole life, variable life, universal life" etc are very complicated products. They are made that way so the client doesn't ask the right questions. Like, what happens to the "cash value" when I die.... why do I get charged interest on borrowing from "my" savings, what's the real rate of return on my "savings"... why doesn't this qualify as a retirement account, and what really are dividends?

Kind of a personal matter as my parents were involved w/ many similar policies.

most of the money received is currently en route. Still trying to get a definite answer on how much $ can be recieved tax free from a single source. So far i've gotten 4 different answers  I'm going to just have to swing by my accountant and ask there.

But rest assured...ALL the $ will make it to Lisa, and no where else. I'm hoping this comment isn't insinuating anything negative.

Taxes should not even come into play, private money is private money.
Its just like giving some money to a friend or a relative

Mike,
The guy who made the post means well. He called today and asked if I had gotten anything from you guys and I answered no. Jerry worked with Dave, himself and you all have been more than wonderful to me during all this. No harm intended I am sure, just concern for me.

Thanks again for everything

I called Mike yesterday with a BIG THANK YOU for what I recieved in the mail. He listen to me cry talk about and how we met and fell in love. I told him if I had a million dollars to give to you guys just so I could have one more hour with my husband I would.
I seem to do okay going to work, it is the coming home that hurts. Dave isn't here to greet me with a kiss and hug and a how was your day baby.

But again a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone for everything! It means more than you'll ever know.

Re: Myclone Donation

ok...it's near the end of March, and it's been a week since receiving anymore donations, so i'm going to consider it closed for now. If more donations do come in i'll still forward the $ to Lisa, so any last minute donators can still give if they've somehow missed the opportunity up until now.

Total recieved: $7207.14

I've already sent $5000 of this to Lisa, so the remaining $2207.14 will be en route this week or next. Thanks again to everyone that has contributed, the outreach for Myclone has been incredible.
