I don't think, for one second, that you shipped the box in that condition. Actually, I don't think the post office would accept a box in that condition(for shipping). Why would anyone even bother shipping something in that condition. The kind of person that would do that would just keep the money and not ship anything.
I don't have much experience with damaged mail, so I'm not sure what the post office will do about it. I hope to get there in the next day or two and ask them about it.
I don't think this is your fault, why should you have to pay for it.
