Re: Myclone is gone

Found this story posted by Dave on another board thought it was funny.

I am sure others can find good stories Dave posted also.

Myclone said:
Ive got some pretty good scars from welding/cutting but the worst was when I was doing some welding on an early chevy truck (installing a sub frame) using an old stick 220v buzz box. I had made a few welds and needed to reposition myself but the ground clamp was in the way so I grabbed the ground clamp to move it only to touch the end of the hot welding rod with my fore arm. Not only did it burn the crap out of me I never turned the welder off so it shocked the crap out of me when my arm completed the circuit. That was ~20yrs ago and Ive still got a scar.

Back in the day when unlaced high top tennis shoes were all the rage I managed to get slag down my tennis shoe that left a nice scar on my foot. My grandfather who was teaching me to weld witnessed the whole thing and laughed until he had tears streaming down his face. Thats ok though since I got revenge when he was using the rose bud on the torch and instead of shutting it off to lay it down he handed it to me to hold while he repositioned what he was working on....I promptly used the rose bud that I was now holding to heat his steel toed boot up. Yes I got the beating of a life time but it was worth it at the time and years later before he passed away we both like to retell the story and laugh about it.

My bead, my head, my way of thinking....hell, theyre all off

.

Yeah, its still off and I'll get the measurements this evening when Im done wrenching (pulling the trans in the dually.....yeah, I managed to break an 80E somehow
icon_rolleyes.gif
).

These are PMs from him yesterday when I was getting frame measurements to order some rear susp stuff, He always made me laugh., And he was more that willing to help somebody out even if he had to make a metal braket to get the measurement perfect

I clamped a piece of flat bar to the outside of each frame rail directly above the axle and measured 40 1/8" between the them. Just be aware that the above measurement was taken off of the FLAT sides of the frame rails above the welded on brackets for the bump stops. Those bump stop brackets stick out a little more than the actual side of the frame so keep that in mind if youre doing some wheel/tire fitments where clearances are tight...those brackets may bite you in the ass as far as rubbing if you just use the frame rail measurement (I know...Im prolly telling you something you already know but Id rather mention it and get a "I KNOW that" for a responce than hear you cuss if the brackets FUBAR whatever youre doing if I didnt mention it).

I am stunned. :(

Dave was an outstanding guy. There was something about the way he related to the world that everyone could identify with. This is a large blow to the Sy/Ty community and he will be greatly missed.

Lisa, please know I will be praying for you and your family.

-Erik.

Re: Myclone is gone

Dave,

Crying like a baby for the last 30 minutes...I'm sitting here in Germany in disbelief that you're gone. I'd been meaning to get around to calling you...there was so much I've been wanting to tell you. I wanted to call and open open a bier with you to tell you that I had been promoted...I know you always liked hearing stuff like that.

You've been an incredible friend over the last 7 years...I know it had been a year or two since we last talked on the phone but when -E- asked you to deliver a SECOND motor to me here in Germany...you didn't even blink an eye. Things like that made you the greatest person to walk this earth...always there to help me and others like me.

I believe it was 7 years ago when I first took notice of you. You had these great stories and I was enthralled reading about them on this new fangled "discussion board" that Kieth had come up with...see years ago all there used to be were e-mail lists...and then discussion boards came around and you quickly took it like the rest of us here. The board gave "Redneckerson" a voice like no other. The story of you bitch slapping the punk that mouthed off to the nice old lady at the grocery store will always be in my mind.

Other stories will be there with me forever...you and I talking about life and life ambitions over the little talk-abouts while pulling into Great Bend, Kansas for GB01 @ 6am....after driving 24hrs straight.

Dave, you had a unique view on life and probably the most sensible of anyone I've ever known. You've also been an incredible friend and I'm mad as hell right now that I won't be able to buy you another beer for what you've done for over the years.

Long live Redneckerson

Re: Myclone is gone

Lisa, like others on the forum, I didn't have the pleasure of meeting your husband in person but he freely gave quality advice to me when needed. Any loss of life is dis-heartening....it is compounded when it happens to be someone in a tight knit community like this one. Look to God for strength during your loss and rest assured we are available to help you out in any way we can.

Re: Myclone is gone

I've been reading all these posts trying to come up with something to say but there isn't anything that can be said. I'm sure i've met Dave over the years, never really got to know him but he was one of the SyTy OG's and has always been here. I don't know if syty.net will be the same without him.
I always enjoyed reading his posts and he will be missed..

If there is anything else that syty.net can do please let us know.
