Re: NASTE FALL MEET 11/20/11 1-5pm
plugged cooler lines?
curious
how many tranny/convertor failures went through those lines/cooler?
incorrect end play is a huge factor in tearing up that part- obviously now you will have plugged lines because of failure ,,
I'm paraphrasing. The cooler return port runs from the outside of the case, to the rear of the case and sprays cold fluid on the planetary. He said early GM transmissions had problems with the planetary running dry, i'm guessing because of centrifugal force pushing the fluid away. He said in modern GM transmissions, there is a passage to spray fluid on the planetary. Apparently, i had insufficient pressure to spray the planetary, and basically, my cold fluid just trickled past the planetary, and back to the pan. He said it wasnt a matter of having the fluid level to low, or high. There wasnt enough fluid pressure in the lines coming from the cooler. Possibly a kinked cooler line, or some obstruction in the cooler causing low flow.
I had the trans in and out about 4 times the week before it blew up. I had the converter opened, cleaned and re-lined with nothing strange to report.
Trans had 10k miles on it. It lost 4th, 2nd, and Reverse, 200mi into a 350mi trip. all highway in OD. So it wasnt a power/torque failure.
