Re: Nats Virgins : Your Thoughts/Comment Here

As A Homecoming organizer now no longer A nats vergin, you all did A great job! I believe BG was A great place to have it, one of the oldest tracks in the US. It is A great track normally, just weather made it almost impossibl to hook up. I hope it is in BG agin in 2011. Big thanks to all & HUGE thank to Jim for doing all that he did, Not A easy event to put on, we do A ton of work to get Home coming ready for everyone to have A great time.

THANKS TO ALL OF YOU !! See ya next year at home coming.

While on this topic do you guys feel BG is deserving of another nats or should it move again?

I think we are going to go for an every other year nats, with the other years being regional events for a couple reasons but I want to hear everybody's thoughts good and bad so we can make this event get bigger and better.

I do know we have a local guy named Jim that was a HUGE help behind the scenes. Most probably didn't even know it. He is a ty owner himself and did a ton of legwork for us. Even as far as calling the sherriff up before hand and telling his people to leave us alone when possible.

He arranged for Renz's truck to get fixed (turned out to be something else), brought $40 worth of ice to me at the track. He is a lifetime local that has more contacts than you can imagine. Great guy and made the event happen much smoother with his efforts. Thanks Jim for your hard work.

Keep it in BG IMO. Going back to the old argument of keeping it near the owner majority makes BG the perfect spot.

BG seemed to work great.... we just need to change ALL of the directions to take I-65 to and from the museum, the track and back to Ryan's. Those back roads and traffic lights sucked ass, I-65 was clearly faster even if it is "longer" according to GPS.

Actually Morgan my Dad and I went 231 to I-65 for the museum visit and we sat in bumper to bumper traffic all along 231. When we got to the museum all the SyTys that left the same time we did were already there. Of course this was 4:00 PM on a Friday so it was technically rush hour.

see, it was just the opposite for me... when I left the hotel ( I was one of the last to leave, there were only 4 trucks left in the lot, one of them being Jabberwalk and the black Typhoon with the ARE LeMans wheels).

I left the lot and tried following the directions, then ended up following someone with GPS cause the directions were pissing me off. His GPS ended up following the directions on the sheet, but the time we got there, Jabberwalk and the Ty with the LeMans wheels were already parked and walking around the museum parking lot.

They didnt pass us on the given route, so they must have went a different way, and a couple people I spoke with said they took I-65 and it was faster.

I think the bumper to bumper on 231 was nothing compared to the traffic and being stuck at every light along 231 the opposite direction, then on W31, then on Rt80.

There is a backway to 65 that we need to use if we do it again. I got stuck on 231 traffic and my truck was not a happy camper doing it.

I don't know anything about the local weather to that area, but if we pushed the date later into the summer/fall would it help with cooler temps. I wouldn't want to risk the springtime and rain, but maybe the fall (if they have a fall weather change like we do here in the northeast).

To respond to some of the concerns...

I personally pushed for a summer time date so that more people (college kids, families w/ children in school, etc) could make it to the event. I'd rather have a big turnout and some heat, than a small turnout and ideal track temps.

Ryan's was convenient, thus I booked the back room. It was either there or a chinese buffet...i chose Ryan's since i felt more confident that everyone couldn't find something they'd want to eat there moreso than a chinese buffet.

Timing is impossible to gauge until the actual event is going. Everything takes longer to setup/execute than you want to imagine, and it just postpones things. We did almost everything on the packed schedule. There are a few minor details that were overlooked that i would have liked to have forced to occur, but just didn't have the ability to do everything since we were already fighting time constraints as it was. I really think that any more in the schedule would have been too much. This is why we scrapped the poker run and parking lot races. That was all 'for fun' stuff anyway, and i don't think anyone was lacking in the fun department.

I enjoyed everything except for the fact that someone forgot to make me name tags!

actually you were in the database to be printed. I printed the name tags at like 7pm wednesday night before i packed and hit the road.

Only thing i can think of is at one point i ran out of nametags in the printer, and it sucked through a couple pages of regular paper - i restarted the printing from where i thought i'd left off, but maybe i skipped a page. :dunno:

I guess you could say i was a nats Virgin this year even tho i attend in KC in 00 but i was a guess and didn't participate in anything at all except riding out there with cheryl

So me attending this yr was a blast and even had a truck too!.

The only thing i didn't quite understand was

1 why was there so much time for time trials. there was a point there was nobody amking passes.

2 more time should have been focused on the racing classes so that there would have been some cool down time between rounds.

Other than that i had a great time.

Hlad i got to meet ya and put a face with the name. i now know who i spoke to on the phone at cheryl's that day.

I love BG ! but i'm partial to it due to the GS/GN nats being there!

I liked BG. Covered bleachers are nice for spectators. It has a lot of room at the track. 3 hotels that close gives people options. Plenty of eating options.

Not sure how you guys went to the track? All you do is turn right on 231 leaving the hotel Rd., right on 31w by the Walgreens and it runs right into beechbend and the track? I took 65 to the vette museum.

As far as time spent on time trials vs racing classes... I still say "Maybe they could line up the trucks in staging lanes to cool and use a different lane for people wanting to time trial or tune some more to cut down on heat soak of the trucks racing and boredom of people sitting at the stands with nothing to watch."

WOW what a great bunch of guys. the weather was a bite much for me. im a fall/spring guy.

my two boys had a great time too. they really took a liking to renz. joe from KY was super awsome (even thow i told him he can crash on our couch, but i was dead asleep and didn't hear him knocking)

it was great to put a face to the threads.

GREAT JOB TO ALL THAT MADE THIS HAPPEN. YOU GUYS DID A BANG UP JOB. AS IF OUR TRUCKS DON'T CONSUME OUR LIVES, TIME, AND MONEY, ADD LONG TRIPS, TONS OF PLANNING, CALLS, PRINTING MATERIAL, FREEBEES ETC.

AWSOME JOB! I HAD A BLAST. THANK YOU

Yea BG is definitely a good spot. I liked being close to the hotel, and I think we would all be dead if those bleachers werent covered (or all stuffed in the air conditioned bath rooms :rotf: ).

My truck definitely needed more time to cool. That very last pass it was getting really unhappy with the hot laps. We could certainly continue time runs for every one else in between rounds of elimination, but we would have to start the eliminations earlier since we were running out of time as it was.

You have my vote to hold the event at BG again next time

Re: Nats Virgins : Your Thoughts/Comment Here

i hate myself for missing out, but i think it has to do alot with the region for people to have eassy acces to it. if 60 trucks showed up and if that's more than a avavage nats, than i think you got a good spot there.

That right there says a lot for the location. If in previous years its been hard to hit 50 trucks, and we had 60 trucks, then that speaks for itself. The economy isnt in the greatest shape, people arent going out and spending as much money, so for us to have a bigger than average turnout when less people are actually traveling really says something for the event.

But everybody was afraid of tech inspection at the track.

That was another huge plus. I didnt even get my hood open and i was passed tech. I wasnt worried about anything other than not having a cage in the truck, but still It would really really suck if someone drove that far and was not allowed to race over a technicality. Plus i guess they figure the group is there for these trucks so they probably take care of them.

There is a backway to 65 that we need to use if we do it again. I got stuck on 231 traffic and my truck was not a happy camper doing it.

Yea I thought all of those stop lights on the way to Ryans were going to do me in. My truck was already still waaay hot from the track, and that fuel pump sounded like it was going to come through the floor by the time we got there. Of course if it wasnt 100 degrees out that wouldnt have been near as much of an issue.

All very valid reasons. You know you cant please everyone all the time, you guys got just about as close as your gonna get though. Like was said before, the weekend flies by, hell it flies by when your at home not doing anything. To get all of that activity organized and actually executed inside of a 2 day period has got to be damn near impossible.

The only thing that you could do is actually make Thursday part of the trip and have some sort of activity for those of us that make it there then. I was suprised with the number of trucks that were sitting in the parking lot Thursday night, so maybe we could have a Thursday night event of some sort. Of course hanging out in the parking lot and meeting new people Thursday night was almost an event in itself!
