need cluster "repaired" to stock form

i do not want to replace my cluster, i want this one repaired.

somone put "indiglow" covers over the gauge faces, but glued them down and i don't think they can be removed without ruining the original faces.

i need someone willing to take my cluster apart and switch the faces for original ones, i would do it myself but after taking the lense off and seeing what a pita it looked i do not feel comfortable doing it.

can anyone help?

Its actually not that hard to pt new faces on. I can see if a face maker would make them a bit larger over all and you would be able to screw it down to the frame of the cluster. But the problem with not gluing them down onto the factory face means they will lift, or cause the cluster to look patchy when lit up due to the separation in faces. So you could possibly see a double image. One from the factory numbers/letters and then the over lay.

yea i see what you mean. the worst part is it's just a paper overlay with a laminate overtop, so it had ZERO UV protection, the gauge faces are piss yellow from sun exposure and look worse than roadkill

try figernail ploss remover. it may help break down the glue without hurting the orignal paint.

google "the tach man". This guy does amazing gauge restorations. Not only the gauge itself (including accuracy adjustment) but gauge face restoration as well.

The 'tachman" repairs automotive instruments from 1963-1989 only, but thank you for the tip

Ian, there's a GT cluster on E-bay right now. Snag it, run a more accurate seperate boost guage.

i checked into a replacement cluster for my ty and found a place in washington called instrument sales and service. they quoted me $175 or $265 depending on the p/n on the back of the cluster to replace it.

ok i guess i did not make myself clear, what part of "I DO NOT WANT TO REPLACE THE CLUSTER" is so hard to understand? pretty self explanatory isn't it?

that means that i am not interested in putting a different one in my truck, i want this one to put back in!

Your best bet might be to buy a used one and use the parts off if that to replace the one on yours.

Or buy aftermarket faces like GB used to sell from someone who might have some left.

yea i'm willing to get a donor cluster if someone could do the swap for me.
i'm not asking for a free lunch, i would gladly pay someone to do it. i messed with it a bit and am just not comfortable doing it, don't wanna break anything

since you only need to have the face repaired, tell him it is from a 89 turbo sunbird. He does great work restoring faces.

Re: need cluster "repaired" to stock form

a lower mileage truck in real nice shape, why would i not want to original cluster in it.

true its not a survivor truck however the low miles do make me like it more, and with a different cluster it would have more or less miles on it, making them not actual miles. which on a car i have this much money invested into, if i ever wanted to sell it, i don;'t want to have to explain why it has not actual miles on it.

I totally understand you not wanting to change the mileage. But if you send in one of your other clusters to be gone though, you just need the replacement cluster reset to your current mileage which they will do for you. Been there, done that. Getting ready to do it again. The last one cost $200.00 to do and I go though my buddy at GM for the work .

Re: need cluster "repaired" to stock form

Your odometer is able to be transfered to another cluster without issue. You also have the option of using the odometer from the new cluster and have the mileage set to match your existing actual mileage. Can't tell how to do it (not allowed on the site) but it is possible. You would not be altering the mileage for purposes of deceipt so there would be no issues.
