Need engine rebuilt...

So after sitting for a year.... the time has come to pull the engine and have it looked at... I was racing a mustang when she was running like a champ.. but when I went to give her gas again... started sputtering... lost power.. smoked a little.. shuddering under power.. had to ease into the gas and limped her on home.. But don't worry.. the mustang didn't beat her...

Here is where I need your advice.. I plan on pulling the motor and having a local mechanic pull the intake and heads off to see if there is any noticeable damage or possible easy fix like a blown gasket. If nothing jumps out at me I want to crate it up and send it to someone who has the knowledge to rebuid it. Nothing crazy wild.. just a good rebuild with maybe a little more power.

So who would you recommend I send the motor to... I live in the western part of NC. I would like to find someone close.. but will ship it to someone if they are right for the job..

The other option is if I can get a complete list of part #'s and specs as far as machine work and have a local builder who is unfamiliar with the sy's (but a good machinist) follow the list so that I can have it rebuilt locally

It's just a shame to let her sit here and not move...

Re: Need engine rebuilt...

I plan on doing the basics first.. plug wires... compression.. but at the same time I wouldn't mind having the motor freshend up just so that I know she can handle the boost without something letting go and ruining the block.. etc..

Is that the same Anderson that does a lot of Grand National work? If so, his stuff is amazing.

Oh, and in case you were considering using one of the board sponsers.... check my sig ;)

Re: Need engine rebuilt...

Since you are in western NC it's probably as close to ERue (Raleigh) as it is to Waller(Columbia). I'm not into vendor bashing, too few folks can work on our trucks at all,and it's a miracle we still have as good a support system as we do! Both of these guys know what they are doing and I would trust either of them to work on my Ty.
Hey have you joined our local NC Yahoo group Southeast GM Turbo6??? We got lots going on the next few months!

Re: Need engine rebuilt...

yes that is the same andersons who does the buick stuff. not afraid to think and do outside the box! i think they are the best around and its not just because they built my low 10 sec stock block. nothing is slow coming out of that shop!

Re: Need engine rebuilt...

I just gave a local engine shop the specs for the motor I wanted and they did all the machine work and short block assembly for me. The 4.3 is pretty much a common 350 small block minus 2 cylinders. As long as you know what pistons and cam combo you want to run the rest is pretty much basic. Otherwise I would recomend Waller performance, John knows his stuff. Might take a while to get It back but it'll be worth the wait. I'm running Waller perf vortec heads, 700r4 trans, and 9/11 converter and I love them!

Re: Need engine rebuilt...

Just ran a compression check... found one cyl. dead... pulling the valve covers to check the rocker arms and going from there...

You have 2 potions either turbo time (e-rue) or Jwaller he is in sc. they both are are great people, and shops. Jwaller has a 9second ty almost a 8second but erue is awesome also.

take your pick.
