Need Some Opinions On intake

So i have a sheetmetal upper i got from RPM once i got it i polished to make chrome like. So now after recieving my Brodix lower intake im trying to figure out if i should get it polished, chromed, or what. After seeing Richard Lee Typhoon and all the chrome under the hood. I would like to just send it out and get the upper and lower chromed. Right now all my ic piping is polished, sheetmetal valve cover and the tb polished, Polished is great but you have to keep up on it and it seem when u get it powder coated clear it seem to yellow some. Will chrome last? Anybody have ideas or thoughts.

Side note anyone who is running the Brodix/Pontiac lower intake are you running a carb spacer between the intake and the upper? I did some measuring and the Broidx intake without the carb spacer sits the same height as the edelbrock with the carb spacer.

Paint the intake, heads & block black. That way all of the shiny polished & chrome stuff will really pop out.

My hood hit on my sheetmetal intake with the Brodix intake (I'm using solid motor mounts which cause it to sit higher), so I don't know how you'd run a spacer.

chrome on aluminum will not last forever, expands with heat at different rate alum. Polish it, everything else is.

do u have a stock hood or cowl hood? I have a goodmark 2 or 2 1/2 whatever the goodmark is. How much did it hit by?

I have the same hood. It was easily an inch to tall.
I have gone a different route for the time being. I could put the Brodix intake back on & take a measurement for you.

x2 on this. Because I'm really hoping to keep my stock hood. I love the sleeper look and other then being lowered 2 inches with my black stock wheels I want it to look stock.

I'm running a Brodix as well. I have the 1" spacer for it, but I don't think I'm going to use it. I've been tossing the idea around of all black too. (aside from the heads, no way I'm painting alum heads..) But I was going to have it powder coated if I did. But after thinking and over thinking about it I'm not sure. I might just blast it a little and leave it the natural finish for a while.

You using the stock style TB gt67? The plenum looks like that kind. I'm running a 75mm accufab.

As far as I know the Goodmark hood uses the same frame as a stock hood. So if you have a clearance issue with one it will be the same with the other.

Can you measure the overall height of your intake (upper on top of lower) for me?
I have a sheetmetalintakes.com piece for my upper & the RPM unit looks even taller than mine.

oh, btw. IF the Brodix and edelbrock do in fact sit the same height as one another. Then it might clear. Because Pope's running solid mounts, a 2114 edelbrock with a plenum and he has the throttle linkage on top. But it might be the design of the plenum that allows this(how flat it is on top, or the radius of it). I have a 100 degree sheet metal style too, I like the 90 degree's better.

I have a hard time believing that the 2114 & the Pontiac are the same height. I have a RPM 2114 complete setup & they seem nowhere near close to each other.

Re: Need Some Opinions On intake

I don't think they are close either.

This is sort of a reference to one another I did. This is a 2111 intake and my brodix. I tried to get the same angle of picture. Its close, just a little off but you can see the brodix is probably a inch and a half taller if not more. (don't mind the insulation hanging in the background, lol. I cover my good parts up with bags, or they are put back in the box)

These are on my raised runner heads, not sure if they would make it sit higher or not.. And you can see I still have to mill a little off the intake to make it fit correctly.

I measured the brodix without the spacer and then the edelbrock with the 1inch spacer and the brodix is about an 1 1/4 taller then the edlebrock.

mine is setup for stock style tb but TPIS took the stock linkage off the side of my stock tb and built me a mono blade 1300cfm one. I just have to cut the center out of the sheetmetal upper

4cfed I can measure it for u when I get home tonight. You say it hits by well over an inch on ur goodmark hood huh. And chance u can get me a measure ment? I'll just put the intake and the sheet metal in the Bridgeport and machine some out of both for clearance

your running bowtie raised runner heads correct? I have matching 23 degree pontiacs heads for the intake so hopefully I don't have to mill anything off. So ur going to leave ur intake cast looking?

I've also thought about blacking it all out also and maybe just leaving the compressor housing of the 88mm polished kind of like the heart of the beast.

Polished aluminum is great but hard to maintain

Re: Need Some Opinions On intake

If you do powdercoat it do a semi polish on it to smooth out casting texture. You'll be much happier with the finished product.
I didn't smooth mine out now I'm going to have it stripped smoothed & re-coated.

Yeah my heads are raised runner's. It took me about a year and a few months to track down a unported, unmilled brodix intake to make work with these heads. The runner flange of the intake overlaps the little lip on the intake side of the head. I might have to vertically mill it to get it to fit that way, or that as well as a little off the front and rear where they touch the china walls to make it sit lower and fit correctly.. I got the intake gaskets in yesterday. I'm going to slap them on today and see what I need to do exactly.

I think I'm leaving it the cast for now. I'll clean it up and all that. I just don't like the idea of painting it and in a year watching it chip or crack off. Which is why I thought about powder coating, but then I thought that its on there for good and takes a lot to get it off... And what if I don't want black after I do it, lol. So I'll leave it the natural finish for now. (btw, my brodix is Roberts old intake he went 8's with.. ;) I was shocked to learn he went 8's with this and its not even ported.. Just goes to show the kind of flow these things can handle.)

Hey 4C'd, which direction did/were you running the TB? I've go a side like gt shows in the pics above. Got any pictures of your stuff you did? I'd like to get some ideas, tips ;)

Re: Need Some Opinions On intake

I had my intake powder coated a clear satin (it would be easer to clean than bare aluminum) and you really couldn't tell it had any coating on it at all. If you like the aluminum look I think its worth it for keeping it clean.

Re: Need Some Opinions On intake

Yeah my intake is ported just to match the amazing port job on the Pontiac heads. You can def tell why people make big power when u look inside these intakes. I never even put my edelbrock to the test. I had the center section milled out and ported and it does even come close to what the brodix offers
