Vacuum gauge, inspection mirror, 1/4 drive metric set should do fine. I have an inspection camera if you want to borrow one.

Have you thought about getting it shipped? When I got my last truck from Seattle it was around $900. You will be spending $400 in fuel, plus the plane ticket, and then whatever expenses you have on the road (hotel, food, repairs, etc.)

Just a thought.

Only problem with getting it shipped is then you are buying it without even seeing it in person.

Re: New 92 Typhoon owner

I kept thinking you were coming down and trailering it back.

Make sure you check the DOT date on the tires and look them over for rotting. I'm sure if the truck hasn't been driven that much in the past 4 years it has sat for good periods of time on one spot on the tires and they probably haven't been replaced. If they are 6-7 years or older you can have issues with them separating from driving on them over the long distance.

I would pack what Dave had mentioned or see what it would cost to be shipped.

From his first post, it sounds like he already purchased it. Unless he is bringing cash, he already sent the funds for it. Can always back out of it but then has to book a last minute flight home as well and get his money back.

I think buying a SyTy unseen that you have no service history of and it has only driven 1000 miles in the last 4 years and driving it 2,000 miles is more of a gamble then getting it shipped unseen.

tires are new, on the corvette wheels, the rotten wheels are on the stock rims i'll have in the back. I have not given him any money yet, and felt very uncomfortable buying it sight unseen. Shipping was around 1,000 from reputable companies, and plane tickets were only $133 to fly down, so i bought myself and a buddy a ticket, with the intention of bringing cash and driving it back, the seller has implied everything is perfect on this truck and he felt like i would have no problems driving it back. If i see anything wrong, i'll either walk away right there, or if it's minor, but worrys me about driving it, i'll have it shipped and just fly back.

Ok, with more details it doesn't seem too bad of a scenario. Good luck with everything.

Re: New 92 Typhoon owner

In my opinion flying down there is the way to go..I had to do sort of the same thing when i bought mine. Granted i drove there because it was only 300 miles away. Still i think just getting it shipped would be nerve racking.

I would personally have a shipping company relocate it. I bought mine from ebay without looking at it and im happy with the purchase it wasn't perfect but had potential

Remove the orange elbow from the turbo inlet. With an inspection mirror and flashlight inspect the compressor wheel for bent fins.
Also remove the hoses from both ends of the plastic crossover. Inspect for cracks, or loose plastic that may break off and be ingested into the turbo. If you find cracks, or loose bits, cut them off.

I have to x2 on this. Had it happen to me a short time after I bought my TY

I bought mine sight unseen and drove it from Chicago to Fort Smith, AR with toasted mains, a bad tune and a ton of other problems so if my POS made it you are golden.

92 Ty seats are light gray everywhere but the seating surfaces, if I'm not mistaken. Maybe they were recovered... or maybe I am mistaken. :D

Edit - Never mind, the interior was just not well lit in the video. If I watch it with my eyes open, they look stock.
