Re: New best NEW UPDATE

Don I do truly believe the front end limiters work to keep our front tires planted. I am going to give them a try in Spring and I can let you know how they turn out. I would have done them sooner but I can't weld.

PS: What's next?? The stock turbo record like Mike (SY2932) said? Might as well at the rate you're going!! (Without even any chip tuning yet!) :woot:

I don't know. 1/2 a second is a long ways to go. A quick search shows the record at 11.943 @ 111.09 Is that correct? Since I'm running a stock trans and TC does that change the record? :rotf:

You guys have no idea how much I appreciate all these comments. I can't thank you enough.

Well it depends on your definition of "the stock turbo record"! Jeremy and I have argued this in the past (in a friendly manner).

I went 12.26 @ 108.66 on a stock turbo with the crappy stock internal wastegate and stock downpipe in 2003:

Of course that was a stock motor, trans, TC, etc. I did do some DIY porting to the turbine inlet. To the best of my knowledge, that is the fastest anyone has gone on a stock turbo with the stock wastegate/downpipe like I said.

However, Jeremy (Six Is Enough) has gone 11.94 @ 111 like you mentioned - with the JSM custom 3" downpipe along with the stock turbo "service port" wastegate mod, which I understand greatly improves the boost control over the stock setup like I was running. I also believe he had a 2800 RPM converter (not sure that matters).

The wild card here is secret Racer Number Three: Chuck Blossom from Minnesota who has (or had) an NHRA AT/SA Syclone heavily modified (headers, standalone etc.) but still running a "stock turbo". He went at least 11.45 @ 116 with a 1.6 60'. His truck is far from "stock" but I am told the NHRA class rules required him to run a "stock turbo".

So who has "the fastest stock turbo" time? It really does depend on the specific definition and who you're asking!

At the rate you're going Don, I do believe with a better launch, more traction, and more tuning (chip tuning), that you could beat my 12.26 @ 108 time with your combo. As far as getting into the 11s on the stock turbo you might ask Jeremy for some tips! :D

Re: New best NEW UPDATE

Thanks,

I don't think there is a "requirement" from NHRA to run a stock turbo. There is a requirement that if your turbo is not OEM then you have to wear a fire jacket. Then, of course, a ton of rules change when you start running 11.49 and quicker.

We'll see what happens this Wed. If the wind is blowing as usual then I'll have a good cross check when the times go back up.

I think Tooky was referring to Stock Eliminator rules. Chuck ran in AT/SA before the dissolved that classification, and one of the specifics was the turbo was stock and untouched.
That being said, it did allow better rods, pistons, and a .430 lift cam. Couldn't touch the heads or intake though, at least not by visible methods.

What constitutes "stock" is a topic that could really go round and round for years.
At any rate, a 12.4x is impressive no matter how you classify it.
