New buyer questions

Hey everyone! Well let me begin by just saying I have been wanting a Sy/Ty since they came out, much like all of you on here I am sure!

I found a 1992 Typhoon for sale not far away, and am going to send a deposit on the truck and go check it out in a few weeks. Is there anything in particular I should check for? The truck has approx 70,000 miles on it.

Also, is has no cd player and has a sunroof, and is a deep deep red/purpleish colour (judging by pictures). Did they offer this colour in 1992, and did 92's have a sunroof as an option? I also read somewhere that ALL Typhoons came with CD players, this true?

Thanks for any help!!

Welcome aboard.

Cassette was standard,CD optional.Sunroof's were not an option, however I have seen many that were dealer installed.Paint codes are listed in "The Vault" and will be on the SPID sticker in the glove box.The only red in 92 was Apple Red,which is blood colored (and the color of my truck).

when you're driving it, make sure the transmission is shifting alright. if not, it's probably gonna fail soon.. or it's already broken.

if the owner won't let you run it hard on the test drive, run away. you've gotta see if everything's in proper working order (turbo, fuel system, transmission, ignition components) and the best way to test this is to floor the thing and see how it does. the guy should be ok with this, because obviously you're not gonna buy a syty and drive it like a grandma (well.. maybe...)

Ok that's def not the one I am lookin at hehe!

Anyone have a site I can host a few small pics? Wondering if it's an original colour or not (or if I can just e-mail them to someone to host)?

Thanks!

70,000 miles, asking around $17,000 CDN (which is like $12,500 USD).

Just want to make sure it's original paint and not a repaint - but looks like this is not an original colour?

No not original. But the price for that many miles seems right.

Damn, I was looking for something all original.
I am weary of repaints since there might be something hiding (like an accident in the past).
I asked for the paint code in the glove box so I will wait and see what colour it was originally.

you should look for other signs of damage, not just paint.

check the radiator support for damage and to see if the 4.3L Syclone engine decal is on it somewhere. It should also be painted a gloss black color.

crawl under the vehicle, make sure all the cladding is secure, nothing has broken tabs, or that sheetmetal hasnt been banged out. Also, check to see if there are signs of the cladding being a different color that the other pieces of the truck, that would tell that a piece has been replaced for some reason then you can investigate more.

the only other thing I can think to do is to make sure the wheels are straight and put your fingers between the tires and the cladding, it should be equal on both sides, meaning behind the driver tire, you can fit 3 fingers, you should also be able to put 3 fingers behind the passenger tire and the cladding.
if its off by anymore than 1 finger, odds are it could have some frame damage.

Id be more scared of a vehicle that has a partial repaint than a full paint job. You have to figure that these trucks are 11-13 years old and the GM single stage urethane isnt gonna last forever. Repaints are becoming very common.

Heck, im gonna be putting the third coat on mine this spring.

Thanks for the info! I guess I will wait to see what the paint code is, to see what the original colour was. Only concern is that I was told it was the original paint.

In the meantime I will keep an eye out for other Syclone's and Typhoon's for sale not too far from me!

looks clean too. Buy it before someone else does.

Merk

Uh, the interior looks pretty rough.

And should he not at least run a carfax first? And ask the community if anyone here has any personal knowledge about this truck?

Or, are you willing to vouch for it? (Maybe you know about this truck? IF SO, BUY IT, OTTAWA TY, Merk indeed knows these trucks !!!)

I have not seen the vin posted yet...just curious...

Waiting to hear back from him with the VIN and paint code. :)

This is the one you mentioned in another post though, in Moncton.

What about the inside looks rough btw?

Thanks!
