New Chip Features (Code59)

Re: New Chip Features (Code59)

Yeah I understand. I made a few tailpipe adapters in search of a design that was the least contaminated by fresh air yet the most responsive. Ive got a decent design now. My Nova would read horribly high AF ratios at idle due to the overlap in the cam before I made the latest version. I also understand the CAT will change readings some, and I plan to do a comparison between placements when I get a tune closer. Its just so much simpler for me to use the tailpipe adapter right now.

dgoodhue to answer your question, yes the romulator works just fine with $59 and tunerproRT.

Re: New Chip Features (Code59)

Just a word about tailpipe adapters;
I installed my WB in the downpipe to compare readings yesterday. It reads very close to the tailpipe readings. I would say its no more than .1-.2 different at cruise, if any. Now my tailpipe adapter is home made. I have two settings for it, one for idle and one for just about everything else. At idle, exhaust flow isnt strong enough to keep outside air from giving a false lean condition. It would read 20:1 until you brought the rpms up to almost 1K, so I modified it for use at idle and it worked great- but set like this it would not react fast enough at cruise. Therefore, I have two settings. Otherwise it works reasonably well.

Once the new code is released I suspect you will find you will want a permanent wb in your truck anyways. That can be removing the stock o2 sensor and installing in that bung. The advantages are already good for cruising, as we are seeing 2-3mpg gains now. As time goes on and the code is refined more it will be even better in the boost areas.

I've gained 5 MPG in the city thanks to the tuning you did last weekend. I used to get 15,now I'm getting 20.This is insane! :tup:

I can't wait to start beta testing this on my own.

Re: New Chip Features (Code59)

The sad thing for me is that I am barely up any MPG at all. I am running 15.5 AFR at my lightest loads, and 15.2 around that, to ensure that I am just greater than 15:1 at cruise between 40 and 75 mph. So far I have seen very little MPG improvement. I recentl;y switched to closed loop, and its about the same. I started with a bin from Paul and it ran well, but slightly rich everywhere. I have the fueling pretty muched nailed for my truck, except for boost which is close but not perfect. I didnt notice untill last week that the timing tables in his bin were VERY conservative at cruise compared to what I was running in $58. I changed them, adding up to 6 degrees at some points. The truck drove down the open road so much nicer- I was positive I was gonna see big changes in MPG, but its not much better. I am probably averaging 15-16 in town.

As for my driving habits, I am trying to drive for mileage. I rarely hit boost if any. I try to drive very smooth- so I dont engage AE or PE. After watching the WB, I can tell how much pedal to give it to stay out of any mode that adds fuel.

BTW, one thing I changed might interest some people. In the boost vs IAT's, I pulled some serious timing from anything over 15 psi. Since I am only aiming for stock boost I used that table as a safety net for overboost. Something to consider for those with that problem since this field reads 300 kpa now (actually 200 kpa of positive pressure)

You don't think this one is similar? Still has a tongue hanging out?

Yeah I was digging the chick licking the turbo too. Did you get that from Turbobuick.com or is that you over there as well- someone on that site had the same pic.
