New Goat (GTO)

TYRODD

My ass. Look at it.
On the way home from work last night, stopped at a red light light right next to a new GTO, he waved and started getting tough :) . I managed a pretty gnarly boost launch on him and he was basically "sheered". It didnt last long as there was some traffic/law ahead of us but it was pretty cool.

Im beginning to see more of these lately, the local radio station is even giving one away. Any one else "herded" up one of these yet?

Local guy I know got one, and he wants his WS6 back...

Another car GM rushed into production.
I think it's pretty much a disgrace to the real GTOs.

Oh well, I guess GM doesn't have the creative capacity to think of anymore good names.

Werd, Its nothing like the original. IMO the names Typhoon and Syclone REALLY stand out, they just sound cool.

Id really like GM to bring back the "Fs", as long as they dont make them front wheel drive four door. At least the GTO is RWD and V8, even the dual exhaust is nice, but not enough to save the rest of the car.

Just a RWD Grand Am - with a bigger motor ;)

They look a little too Pontiac for me. The concepts all look nice. The show cars looked good. The production - its okay. Although, everything I've read has been good. Could it be because for the last 10 years GM has made dick - so everyone is ready to embrace the next mediocre thing they unleash?

Nice kill. Every time I've seen one - we've been in the Murano. Oh wait...I haven't driven the Ty in a month.

New Goat (GTO)

I haven't been real fond of the new goats, I think they look like an overgrown toyota and blend in with all the other foreign stuff running around. We have been calling them Dingo goats since they are from Australia. My father has a 69 goat he bought new and still has it. Love the old goats, but I am a semi old fart myself and am partial to the old stuff and I am very old school anyway. Nice kill by the way, I have seen several running around here, they run about the same as the last of the f-bodies. I bet its depressing for a new owner to go out and plunk down 30 grand for a performance car and then go out and get spanked by a 12 year old truck, and he probably doesn't know what it was either. Couple weeks ago at the strip I raced against one that ran 15.1 @ 95. He said it was his first time drag racing. :(

I have seen a new GTO run 11's on the bottle. I'll see if I can find the vid.

forget a grand am, they look like a cavelier. I forget who said it but it's the truth. What GM needs to bring back is the Grand National. Oh well, damn Buick old people cars. so depressing.

I am a former GTO owner (1965 ragtop Iris mist white interior) and think the new one is a slap in the face to the name. The terrible part is Rumor has it the "Chevelle" name plate is next

Just a quick question since we are on the topic of gto, how hard is it to find a 65 hurst edition gto.

BigBadSmoosh

Picking fights on I-65 since 2013
my boss has a brand new yellow gto..

he won't race me in my 10+ yr old suv with 100k miles on the clock..

I wonder why?

I doubt it would look good to all the employees if a lowly network admin/tech beat out the owner of the company.. :D

ohh yeah, and he just bought a yellow ssr as the new company advertising/driver to customer's locations..

I spose I shouldn't say 10 years - as the 94-96 Impy SS was a close reproduction of the original - kinda. It was more Impala than the current offering...Nothing says SS like a FWD V6 ;)

I don't want to totally rip on the GTO. Our society has gone more retro with lots of things. Houses are being built to look older. Furniture is made to look weathered. Hip hugger bell bottom pants for the ladies 8)

It isn't only GM that is doing it either. However, GM - with the exception of Cadillac - has been very very boring with the cars the have put out. They have gotten in the habit of putting an SS badge on anything - and sadly people are buying it.

Impala SS
Monte SS
S-10 SS
Silverado SS
Camaro SS - which is the best thing to wear the SS badge in some time.
SSR

GM has become the ricer of the automanufacturers. Slap a badge on something to make it appear faster than it really is. Next thing - they'll start painting their cars yellow - whoops - too late :)

Since I'm typing....(I feel like myclone)

I would say 75% of the population sees a car for what it is. There are few of us that actually consider ourselves car enthusiasts. People don't take the pride in cars that they seemingly did years ago. In my office - I can think of a few people that would actually work on their own cars. The others would rather take it and let the dealership play with it. People talk about weekend plans - I mention I'm working on my Ty. What's broke? Nothing. Then why work on it???

The hobby is gone. People blame electronics as the reason why they don't. The same theory applies. More air + more fuel = more power.

When's the last time you asw your neighbor washing his car in the driveway? Why wash it when I can take it to the drive your car through a tunnel with soapy cloths and have it clean? Because it doesn't look as good. Because how can you take pride in having a clean car - that all you did was give someone $10-20 to make it so.

Last weekend I spent 4 hours waxing the Murano. People inquired why it took so long - I was wishing I had another couple hours to do the final application 8)

I had some non car guys asking how I kept my motor on the Ty so clean...I get dirty so my truck stays clean. I don't pay someone to detail it. I do it. I take my wheels off - and wax the side that doesn't show. Why - because I can.

Oh yeah - the GTO is okay. :)

Yikes!

New Goat (GTO)

Hey GM Turbo, there are still a few of us die hards out here. I work on my own stuff, rebuild my own motors, trans, rearends, I won't let anyone turn a wrench on anything I have. I wash my own cars in my driveway, even in the middle of winter. As a matter of fact, since there isn't a car manufacturer thats makes anything that interests me at all, I drive only old cars, keep them maintained myself. I mean the newest thing I own is over 20 years old. With the exception of the TY. I haven't really liked too many cars since the early 80's. I own 8 cars and they are all from the mid seventies on back through the 60's and 50's, with the ty being the only newer vehicle. I drive the wheels off my older cars, love em to death, race em, drive em, even take them on vacation accross the country, Don't care about gas mileage, just keep filling them up and having fun. I refuse to let gas prices dictate what kind of car I have to drive. My daily car is a 76 chevy Monza Spyder with a fairly radical 406 and muncie 4-speed, gets about 14 mpg at best, but I don't care, put about 15-20,000 miles a year on it and love every minute. If thats not a die hard car nut I don't know what is, I am accused all the time of still living in the 60's, but I don't care, I will drive these old cars till I die. Take it easy, Larry.

The 60's are the best ::eek:k:: , wish I was 18-25 around those times. The only muscle car Ill buy thats not from the 60's or 70's would be another Ty, Sy, TTA, or 86-87 lc2 powered regal.
