New here--looking to buy Typhoon for daily driver

new here but not new to Turbo Power

I have an 89 TTA-Turbo Trans Am-many many mods--been sitting in the garage for the 1-1/2 yrs I've owned it so far--gotta get time to tune it--drive it once in a while--no exhaust on it yet, no tickets so far

and a 92 Eagle talon awd 5-spd with a few mods, this is my cramped daily driver right now

I'm looking at getting a modded 93 typhoon with Jasper eng/trans 10,000mi on the eng/trans 80,000 on the truck

my question is why shouldn't I buy this for a daily driver??

keep in mind I'll have the talon as a backup when the truck breaks, or I'll buy a slider

thanks for any advice--typhoon I want is 160mi away from me so it'll be a while before I can see it

How much?

Isnt Jasper just like Discount or Auto Zone. Where they just are crate engine's and so forth?
Does it have the factory trans, or is it a after market one?

Depending on how well it runs, what the price is, and what it looks like (alot of rust, need's some cladding/paint.. ect..) I would look in the for sale section on here. There are alot of nice Ty's in the sale section that I'm sure are in the same price range as this. (unless its dirt cheap or something.) :dunno:

1st. Gas Milage.

These trucks are geared low to leap. 2000 RPM in overdrive get you only 60 Mph Your Talon probabily turns 1700 or 1800 at 60Mph.

2nd. You have to always be work on them.

3rd. You have to explain to lookers that it is rare. Most common folks don't know.

Those two things alone don't go well. If you don't have time to finish the TTA you probably don't have time to sort out all the issues that the Jasper engine will bring you either.

hey, if you buy that truck and you need another Jasper transmission, let me know. I have one sitting on my shelf that they built for me under warrenty back in 2002 when the first one they built for me (i was desprate and needed to get to Nats) had problems from the first trip around the block.

Id personally rather have an Engine or Transmission built by 7-11 before I would trust anything from Jasper.

but anyway, 0 Miles, new converter, $1000 and its yours :D

I can almost guarantee that the Jasper engine does not have nodular main caps.I've seen engines that don't have them last for a few thousand miles at best.If I were you,I'd look elsewhere,or at least be prepared to put a new engine and/or trans in it.

Look for another Ty. You can find one with 80K w/o mods for $9-11K more if you want one in pristine condition or modded. Look at the ones FS here as stated above. People here know what these trucks are and have taken care of them. Be careful of ANY modded Ty if not FS here. I found mine bone stock (including original wires) in November and have put 11K miles on her since, after a tune up. Good Luck. I love the TTA.

Also, where are you located? That can make a difference.
If there are other SyTy'ers nearby, that may help you keep it on the road full time. Notice, I said you keep it on the road. You'll have to work on it yourself if you want it done right.

If you want ultimate reliability, this may not be the vehicle for you (although I've had very few problems with mine, but I don't beat on it as it's also my DD for now).

Wait, where are you from? My 93 had a Jasper motor/Mike Lee trans and had about that mile combo. Last 4 on it were 1891. Anyways if thats it don't get it. The Mike Lee tranny is a TH350 and it gets like 7mpg.
