New member in Michigan...

First off, thanks to Captain Morgan for his incredible speed in making me an account. I've been browsing the forums for about a week now and I came across the "closed registration" threads and I sent him a message on twitter. Within minutes, I had a new account.

Right off the back, two things concern me. The rear window is a slider, something that I have never seen on any of the typhoons on the internet. Another thing is that I don't believe the seats say Typhoon, I may be mistaken though as I'll look at it later on this week. I'll get the vin first thing tomorrow and simply call the dealer to check, but is there a website I can look it up on?

Secondly, my uncle, who hasn't touched a computer in...well maybe ever, just bought a GMC Typhoon from a local guy for $6,500. I believe it has 66k miles on it. The car had been sitting in a garage for over 7 years, untouched. I seem to be his internet liaison, for almost anything in the world, and I told him to let me do research on the truck before he started letting "pookie n' dem" mess with stuff, which led me here.

My goals for the truck, which may be different from his, are to make sure it runs and functions as it should off the assembly line first, then add stuff. I've driven it 4 times in the last week and it's running horribly hard. We've had new plugs/wires put in, changed the fuel pump (cheapy from autozone), and put in a new battery. It's still running odd, so I've suggested we take it to the dealer for a full diagnostic, then begin the repairs from there. Any other ideas?

With those wheels, you should be able to knock a bit off the price. Yuck.

Once you get the VIN, you can get the guys on here to run the CARFAX on it. A rear slider is a bit different.
Have you got any pics of the engine?

Welcome.

Don't take it to the dealer. Plenty of more knowledgeable people in the Detroit area that can help you get it running correctly.

Thanks. No pics of the engine yet, I was caught up on why it was running so bad. The tires are rotted out though. No way in the world I'm letting him keep those wheels. I'll boycott his entire mission if he does.

Nice to see you make it over here from s10forum.. Still doin the system in it?

Most definitely. That seems to be my uncles priority actually, but I don't want to put a system in a car like this without it running properly first. If he thinks he's going to pull up to Chevy SS trucks and Magnum SRT's in it's current condition, he has another thing coming. I think he's being impatient because the woodward dream cruise is coming up.

'93 Typhoons do not have the Typhoon logos on the seats, so don't worry about that. The VIN will confirm it's a Typhoon.

Here's a good check list for getting a stock SyTy to run well:

 THANK YOU!!! I was freaking out about the seats, lol.

Feel free to point me to one, or two, or 50. I need all the help I can get, especially in person.

Welp, bad news.

Seems as if he doesn't have a Typhoon after all. When I typed in the vin, it came back as a 91 Jimmy.

I check the vin number forum and I noticed almost every car started with different character string.

Diagnostic schmiagnostic do it yourself! It's obd1 and pretty easy to diagnose! Take that airtex pump out and get a walboro or aeromotive 340! Just tell them it died and you want your money back! Then while your there buy the diagnostic tool for $25 that just plugs right in or use the paper clip method! Replace all vacuum lines with good silicone line or buy a kit from tom at sportmachines, those old lines will break if you look at them wrong! Just replace it piece by piece so you don't have to play the diagram game because you got excited and took it all off at once. The truck is like a women take everything slow , don't cut corners or they will nag and get ornery.if ya need any info let me know in fact let us all know ! We will be here for you buddy sordove like a support group! Good luck and ask as many questions as you want when you've searched your heart out here and are stumped! Ttys!
