new syclone owner engine questions

I just bought a syclone from a guy and it has quite a bit of mods, but retains the stock turbo with a gutted cat and staight bulet type muffler for an exhaust, the turbo , engin and tranny is 5000 miles old and all is cool but the over boost thing, It will sometimes hit 23 lbs of boost and then start stutering and i back off of course, I bouth a greddy boost controller from a friend and i am about to install it but thought i would ask a few of you what you think. I was told to get a bigger down pipe and exhaust and it would cure this dangerous combo but I just got it and not sure were to go and didn't want to waste money were it wasn't needed, The truck has a good base, and being a 93 cobra owner and 2004 yamaha r1 owner for quite sometime im use to tuning and wrenching.
have $2694 in receipts dated at the beginning of 2004. This is not including the 4 wheel 12" Baer brakes price!

Here are the modifications the previous owner told me it had and I have some receipts for. I did not install these myself.

12" 4 wheel disc Baer brakes all the way around. It will nearly pull your eyes out of the sockets when stopping!

It also has what's called an "Ostrich". It's an emulator that allows you to tune the truck from a laptop... in real time!!! I never got used to doing that.

The engine has less than 5000 miles since it's been built (as I'm told from the previous owner). The truck has 81000 actual miles.

thanks if you read all of this and have any idea as to what is going on with my truck, I do alot of bike work, and am a gun collector- ONLY THE COOL STUFF- and have owned many mustangs so I can be of some help back to you if you need it, Thanks

Re: new syclone owner engine questions

first off you need to make sure the 6BTM is not pulling timing, your ECM does that and you dont want both of them doing it bc they will pulll too much and it will run like poo. secondly you need an external wastegate for an open exhaust or you need to port your stock turbo's wastegate. either way with that setup it will overboost and cook you nice new motor.

Re: new syclone owner engine questions

Ditch the stock turbo, it is too inefficient at high boost, more heat than anything. Go for a 44 at least, maybe a 60 garrett unit with a good wastegate. Check out the vendors on this site, they will know exactly what is best for your setup.

Re: new syclone owner engine questions

No cat will cause an overboost. If you go to a bigger turbo I would change the injectors too. You are probably pushing the 40's as it is. I have a Greedy controler and I love it. My stock turbo will hold 17-18psi steady. My truck runs the best right now at 16.5 psi. Above that and my IA goes up real fast. I would hold off on the Dp till you are ready for a bigger turbo and do it all then. You will get more use out of Alky at this point. For now just tune it in and watch your KR. :2cents:

Re: new syclone owner engine questions

i have a turbo that was taken off the truck at 75000 miles, it is supose to be a good turbo. I moved the waste gate actuater rod and it was stiff but moved smoothly. I did the same to the one that is on the truck now and it sqeaked when i moved it. So i should do what and how at this point ? I am going to install the greddy profec boost controller soon and was wondering about porting the waste gate and msd ? i have good shop and hand skills and was curious as to what you might sugesst and was there a post on this....
