That is the norm, to change it out,,, because no matter how much you try to flush it out,, you cannot get all the old crap out, unless you have it cut opened & cleaned then put back together again.

What him said. You can get one, but you'll have to be willing to pay to have it fixed afterward.

Not if you think your gonna break it. It's just money wasted. If you just get a cheapo $150-$300 converter, it's no big deal but don't splurge on a $900+ converter and then blow the trans up and fill it with crud.

if you blow the trans up you can always have your converter opened up cleaned out and repaired if nessassery. you dont have to replace it.

Two ways to look at it.
Get a 2000 to 2500 stall for ~$300. Blow up trans. Then Get a nice converter with new trans.
Get nice converter, blow up trans. Pay shipping and teardown costs to redo converter.
One good thing about #2, you can have it stalled more to your liking because you'll know it was too loose or too tight and the adjustment can be made during teardown.

Or you can take the path least taken. Put in a $300 converter, drive it like a DD and never mess up anything.

I guess its safe to say DONT BUY A USED TC...because it could have came off of a blown up tranny?! ---

Especially if they say "it only has 1500 miles on it" or something to that affect. It most likely means, they blew up the trans and they are trying to get enough money to pay for the rebuild.
