New truck!! (pics added 4/7)

Well I am the proud owner of a Typhoon now guys, I picked it up today. I went to the guys house to look at it, put a new battery in it and a couple gallons of gas and she started right up!! Needs some work definatly, it is blowing smoke like crazy, I think it is the turbo, it has 196K on it. The motor was rebuilt at 80K so I think I will start with the turbo and go from there. Truck needs some love but that is what I am here for. Needs a good cleaning and some wax to see if I can get her to shine again. It has been sitting for 2-3years with out moving. But I am ready for the project, and for $2000 how can you say no! I will get some pics up tomorrow. Anyone know what would cause it to smell like gas while running like crazy? I think maybe the tank is shot and is going to need to be replaced, so I am thinking do the pump and stuff why its all apart. The number of the truck is the last 4 of the vin right?

****I will try and get some better and more pics of the inside. I do have the back cladding they guy broke it and had one made out of fiberglass that matches great, just need to get it installed. On another note today I adjusted the TV cable today and took her for a ride shifts like a champ now!! What a great deal I got! Truck interior needs a good cleaning but I degreased the engine bay and under her today also still have to get the turbo ripped out and sent out for rebuild.*****

New pics head gaskets are blown, I hope thats what it is. Causing the white smoke, some kind of coolant issue coming from somewhere. (I think I broke it!)

$2000. thats a score. starts n runs...did it move or at least go into gear?
drain the fuel and change the filter for starters. been sitting quite a while. crappy fuel and/or any water in the fuel system can cause a poor running condition...smell of raw fuel at the tail pipe. also,sometimes the tach will go nuts due to the misfires.

Wow not to sound weird dude but I tried calling your cell phone earlier today! Me and my bud work at the Advance in New Milford, you bought the battery off of him and he called me was was like "Dude guess what car I just sold a battery for!?" and I was like "Haha a Typhoon or some shit" I say this sporting my new NASTE shirt and hes like "Yeah do you know the guy?!" "No but what was his phone number!?!?!" I asked that since we ask for phone numbers on battery purchases, I tried calling the number just to ask where this cheap ass Ty was, I was going to come check it out with you but you didn't pick up. I was the 770 number calling btw..

Stop by Advance sometime man, I'm there all the time, I'm the other Chris there, the short one driving the shit ass red Grand Cherokee. Shoot me a PM in the mean time, I want to check out your Ty, haven't seen one in person since late last year.

I'd guess that he asked the guy? The dude seems to keep to himself, I ALWAYS wanted to ask him about his Ty as it was just sitting outside for years looking all sad. I don't even think he's on here or even knows this site exists, I think he has another Sy or Ty or used to, not 100% on that. Last time I talked to him he had a red Ty if this is the same guy which I'm pretty sure it is. I always thought the Ty outside was a real Ty but my bud was like "No it's just a Jimmy with a Ty body kit, he's got the real one inside his car tent..." Guess not!

I drive a truck for a living so I drive by all time, so I said for shits and giggles I would drop a note in his mailbox, well a week went by and no call so Easter sunday he calls we get to talking and sure enough he wants to get rid of it. So He tells me probably going to need a motor rebuilt, turbo and tranny. So I asked how much, he said $2500. Go check it out truck is clean inside and pretty solid body, just a little rust on the passenger fender thats it. Needed a big time cleaning inside but there are no major rips or anything like that so I said what the hell. I stop by with a battery on Satuday and drop it in, and she fired right up. So I drove it home!! Shifts hard from 1st to second and not to bad from 2nd to 3rd so I am going to try and adjust the TV cable today on it and see if that helps. Smokes like a bastard so I am going to yank the tubo and have it rebuilt or maybe buy a replacement for it. She does not boost very well so it is definatly time for a turbo rebuild, especially with 198K on it. But again the cladding alone is worth that, and it is all there except the back two corners are cracked on he had made out of fiberglass and he gave to me the other is cracked.

The truck is definatly real, so I scooped it up. I did a tune up on it yesterday and she runs 100x better already. Still have the smell of raw gas at the exhaust have to figure that out still. The guy owns another Syclone, which he said was sandwhiched between a guard rail and a tractor trailer so that truck is in the body shop now, and he just bought another typhoon in Mass where he lives most of the time. So he loves them to obviously. I will try to get some pics up today but it is raining so if it clears off I will definatly get them.

A hard 1-2 shift is a good thing, its supposed to be like that.

I am still on Blazinlow also, have that beast too, just need to finsh her and get her back on the road, but she is taking the back burner to this project now!!

I am still on Blazinlow also, have that beast too, just need to finsh her and get her back on the road, but she is taking the back burner to this project now!!

Thats what happened to my Blazer. V8, 5/6 Drop, shaved everything, Led's, etc. And after i got the Ty it just sits. I will get it going again soon.

Dgoodhue, what did you do? did you get it rebuilt or was it that TV cable? Also when it shifts I get a banging noise, thing that is bad universals on the drive shaft?

It was in my Corvette and the fix was getting the transmission rebuilt. I actually put some tranmedic in the transmission and it gotbetter. It lasted until I brought it to the track again :rotf: I then had the 3800-4500 rpm bang shifts again.

You might want to check the tranmission TV cable to make sure its still locked into place, on northern high mile Trucks the retainer gets a little rusty and jam up (causing transmission oil pressure problems)

Yeah it is raining again today so i will not get a chance to mess with it today, but I do need to check the TV cable on it, and see if that is the issue. Does anyone know where I can get a cable for tunerpro also, I want to pick that up and check the computer on the truck and see if there is anything going on in there. Thanks

Nice story man, I always wanted to drop by that guys house with my Braphoon but it didn't run long enough for me to do that! I knew that was the guy with the Syclone, my buddy who works at Levines told me about that accident right after it happened, said he saw it at CT Auto Body in New Milford on the frame straightening machine.

BTW what color is your Blazer? I've probably seen it around if it's on bags.

You have not seen my blazer man, unless you are peeking in the windows of my garage!! LOL it hasn't seen daylight in years, not together right now! Yeah the Syclone that guy has is sitting up at CT autobody still he is still trying to find cladding for it to see if he can get it back to look like a Sy again. You might have seen my escalade around though, it is a pearl white with 24in rims, and a system in it, I had it up by your store a few times. I an going to get some pics of the Ty today when the rain lets up again. I will get them posted.
