New Ty owner here! Hi all!

I am a new Typhoon owner. I picked it up on ebay after a guy decided to not sell me his 89 TTA on ebay. Basically I got an assignment to England, I wasn't sure if I wanted to take my Firebird, and I didn't want to bring my Fox. So I wanted to pick up something rare, quick, and fun to play with...

It is a Garnet Red Typhoon #1519. I AM aware of the history with the previous owner, the infamous garnet insane burnout video on youtube. Doesn't worry me too much. These were built to have fun with, and that is what I plan on doing with it.. Well, minus the RWD burnout, I have a built firebird for that... It has made it 98k miles, so it couldn't have had it that rough :)

I"ll post some pictures of my other rides in a bit. I am feeling a bit lazy currently...

I bought the Ty when I was deployed... I just got back, so I am chilling in Japan. Then I am heading to England in April. I don't get to see my cars too often and I only get to take 1 to England.

I bought this one to take to England with me, but am not contemplating leaving it and taking my bird with me...

Also, I won't be flipping this one... I bought my mustang over 2 years ago, and being overseas I haven't had time to sell it, and won't for another 2.5 years... I am not hurting for funds, so even if I wanted to sell this one, it would be at least 2.5-3 years before I had time to :) Way I figure is, even if they are parked, they aren't gaining mileage and they are inside... :)

Re: New Ty owner here! Hi all!

RAF Alconbury...

If I brought it, I would plan to DD it... If I take my bird, I will have to buy a DD which is lame.

If I can get a car shipped from San Francisco to England for $1500, I will take that route as it will save me from buying a DD... Although, I will pretty much figure one car will be down at all times... haha. I usually spend half my leave working on the bird, so I am used to always working on it.

Welcome...and thank you for your service. :usa:

Along with the burnout video, there's been lots of conversation about the truck on this board. Simply put "1519" in the search field (^^ top bar) and read on.

Couple of UK SyTyers on here.

What year Firebird?

RAF Alconbury is only about an hour from me. Give me a shout if you do make it over.

Re: New Ty owner here! Hi all!

Yeah, I did my research on the car. I have seen the conversations, and quite frankly I am not too worried. The guys at the shop where I store my cars checked it over and said it is in nice shape and runs good...

My firebird is an 88 my father and I built. He passed away a couple years ago, and I have since blown the engine, rebuilt it. Tranny started slipping, T56 swapped it, Then figured to hell with it before I blow the rear and put in a Moser 9"... Then I figure since the Tranny/Rear can hold quite a bit of power I picked up a procharger for it to even it out a bit :) Long story short, if I was worried about something on the Ty breaking, I definitely wouldn't have bought a typhoon to begin with. Breaking shit is just part of being a car guy!

Hondo, I will be out there by the April for sure. I'll either be bringing my Bird or Typhoon. I'm sure we will bump into each other at some shows or something!

Re: New Ty owner here! Hi all!

After doing some research I have learned I have some stuff sitting over from my bird that will work on my Ty...

Before I did an ECU swap on my bird, I ordered an ALDL cable, which of course will work on my ty and help keep an eye on knock and stuff... Along with a BBK 52mm TB, and vette wheels that I decided not to use. I picked up a 10n1 chip from a member on here as well.

I'll make sure it it running healthy and start modding and tuning after every mod. I learned from my bird how horrible it is to tune after doing a TON of stuff all at once. My goal is to get the car to run a high 13 stock and go from there.

Re: New Ty owner here! Hi all!

From what I have read on the history of the truck, it is in good running shape. From what I have read, it has a new tranny/torque converter which is a bit of a worry... I am hoping they are the correct one that allows a WOT 3-4 shift along with the correct governor. Also it has the Silicon lines, and a KN cone filter already installed.

I'll check it out when I get back stateside. I only have a week with the car before I move over to England. I am still deciding if I want to take my Firebird or Typhoon to England. I bought the Ty specifically to take with me, but am a bit unsure at this point. I miss my bird quite a bit... 3 years 2 months in Japan, a week of leave then off to England for 2 years.

I found out I think 5-6 owners ago, the guy ran a 14.3 or something with it... but who knows if the guy knew what he was doing. I have over 150 passes in my bird... I have cut 1.8 60ft times back when it was a stalled auto on drag radials, but it took quite a few passes to learn how to launch it. This should be a bit easier to Launch! I know there is a big difference to what a car "should" run and what it does run...

Jimmy, I could have went my whole life without watching that video. I just wanted you to know that... I have no clue where/how you find videos like that, but I prefer not to know... Couldn't have gotten anymore random than that.

if you bring it to England, do you have to pass their MOE test? I hear England is pretty strict with emissions on older stuff

Re: New Ty owner here! Hi all!

Yeah, I would have to pass the MOT, but I have a connection down there already I believe, so I am not too worried about it if I take the bird. As for the Ty, if I take it, it's stock so it should be fine minus a few little things I have to do to the lights.

Re: New Ty owner here! Hi all!

So I think it is going to come down to if my bird makes it into paint before April or not. I have a feeling I am going to be taking the Ty to England with me. Just for fun though, I picked up some 18" Work Equip wheels I am going to store for it. Should be fun!

So as of now I have:
10n1 chip
ALDL cable + datalogging equipment
BBK 52mm TB
Wideband (bought for my bird, but I can get another :p)
Work 18" wheels

I am ready to come back so I can start tinkering and post some real pictures!!!

Re: New Ty owner here! Hi all!

Update on the Ty... I just paid the registration + taxes ($800ish ouch), and my shop was saying that someone installed a cone filter and there isn't an air box... So I had to buy an air box and new crossover tube before I go smog it. Stuff should be coming in today, so all I need is to pass smog so I can get the title. I knew it had a cone filter, and I completely forgot about it not passing smog with it. Then there weren't any air boxes in the Pick N Pull...

Only thing is I need the title for when I go to ship it to England... So i'm not sure how long it takes to come in, but I will be driving it to the port in 3 weeks... Hopefully I get it quickly and smog goes well... Otherwise, I might just say eff it and take my shitty Fox. I may as well take something over there, and I would really like it to by my Typhoon. Sucks being overseas because I couldn't put it in my name... And i'm still not around the Ty. I only have a week to go home and get everything straight before I move to England. I have been relying on my friends to do all this stuff for me.

I will not be taking the bird I decided...
