New Ty owner here

I just thought I would make an official "hello, I'm new" post before I lurk around here anymore. I just bought Typhoon # 349 a few weeks ago. Its going to need a lot of work to get it back in respectable shape. I hope to drive it this summer and maybe take it all apart this winter (long winters here in Cincinnati) to fix all the rust. Here are some pictures for you all.

I'll try to use the search button as much as possible, but thanks for all the help in advance!

Re: New Ty owner here

Actually, my title says that it is a 1992. From what I read, they only made white/white Typhoons in 93. In 92 they were made white with grey cladding. I don't know the story on why mine is white/white. I did check the paint code and the trucks factory color is white though.

Re: New Ty owner here

that is a 1992, it has the boxy style roof rack and it has the silver decals. They did NOT do that for 93 and only did the newer style rack. 93 tys came with gold decals. 92 wht/whts do exist, but they are not very common. The grille has also been painted to 93 style as well and the door eschucheons have been removed. Another giveaway is the centercaps....92s came with the red painted GMC, 93s came uppainted. Your paint code will not say anything about the cladding, only the body color.

Your cladding looks to be a different white (its brighter), so it was probably a wht/gry originally. Your driver door looks to be replaced or repainted too? Its way off white.

Congrats on the purchase, welcome to the site!

Re: New Ty owner here

I have already figured out just how expensive this truck will be. lol

I know it needs new motor mounts (one is broken), fenders, doors and the roof section above the rear window and the tailgate (rust). The good news is that the rockers and floors seam to be on good shape still. There is a bunch of other smaller things wrong with it as well. I need to decide if I want to just fix the rust, paint it and fix all the mechanical stuff as I go, or do a full restoration this winter. I know how I am, and I think the full resto would get out of hand and never get finished. lol

Did you buy this in Cincinnati, maybe off Eight Mile Road? There was a white Ty that sat at a house I passed for years, then it was just gone a few weeks ago. Just curious. Oh, and it's good to see another local sytyer on here. I'm east of town, but work in Cincy.

Yep, that is the one I bought. A fuel pump went out in it, and it has just been sitting there rotting for a few years now. My friends uncle finally decided to get rid of it. I'm not far from there, maybe 2 miles. I agree that it is nice to see others from the same area on here!

As anyone will tell you we are not in it for the money or else we would have gotten rid of these vehicles years ago. We have the need for speed.....
