New Typhoon Owner

Hi guys, new member (sort of) I joined last year, but never got to introduce myself as my Typhoon dreams were shattered soon after. Last year I bought a 92 Ty. Fell in love with it at first sight, drove it for about a week or until the red light bully grin started to wear off.

It seemed like something was vibrating against the floor boards so I decided to put her on the lift and check it out. I almost cried when I realized the vibration was the tranny touching the body which had sank down. The body mount supports were completely rusted out, inner rocker panels were gone and the frame had rusted thru in various places. The previous owner had fixed it by placing two pieces of wood between frame and floor and spraying under coating on everything. The truck is now owned by a friend that plans on eventually switching everything over to an S10 Blazer...

Fast forward to about two weeks ago when my brother realized that he had too many toys and knowing my situation well, he decided to let me have his 92 Ty! It had been sitting in back of his house for about a year since he lost interest in it and moved on to other toys. It needs a little work but its pretty clean. Decent paint, no rust, good interior. Title says 56k and odometer says 58k.

So from now on I will appreciate your insight on various questions that I will have as I start working on her. I will post pics and # soon.

Thanks in advance, Eddie... New Typhoon owner in South Jersey

Re: New Typhoon Owner

Sucks to hear about your last syty endeavor, but congrats on the new one. What kinda shape is it in? I'm guessing it doesn't run. I look forward to seeing some pics of it. There's a lot of good info on the forum. A search will bring up the answer to just about any question you could have about it. Start a build thread on it and good luck.

Thanks KyS10. The truck is running. I've been driving it for the past couple weeks, but It's running a bit rich... Showing code 45

Re: New Typhoon Owner

Sorry. I assumed it wasn't running when you said it had been sitting behind your brothers house. X2 on some pics.

Re: New Typhoon Owner

Pull the vac line off or the fuel pressure regulator and see if it smells like gas.

If it does, that means the diaphram inside it is broken. This will cause a code 45 to be set.
It also means gas is leaking into the crankcase.

Thank you Jimmy. I haven't had a chance to check the vac line on the fuel regulator yet, but I was looking at her yesterday and noticed the wastegate actuator is missing. Which explains why she's not boosting up. I asked my brother, he remembered removing it to replace it. So now I need to find an actuator for it.

I'm not a fan of pinstripes most of the time, but the small red line looks pretty good. Hit up one of our vendors for some proper Typhoon stickers.

Thanks Jimmy, you were right. I put a new regulator in and put in new Mobil1 and she's running a lot better. I cleared the code and it hasn't come back Thank God I didn't beat up on her because the oil was really thinned out. I still have an irregular idle, maybe the egr. Again thanks!

Glad I could help!

On the idle, the first thing I would do is reset the IAC. Oh,and on the back of the throttle body is a big port that should be sealed off.

Re: New Typhoon Owner

Nice truck and good luck. As for the idle look at what Jimmy said and also cleaning out throttle body with some seafoam will help some. You said it was sitting for some time.
