New wheels on the way

I was looking for a set of wagon wheels or two and came across a set of c5 magnesium wheels that are all 17x8.5 fronts for $500 shipped :) I'll have to find some adapters soon but I think they'll look good on the ty and for the price I couldn't pass though it's more than I was looking to spend. I may put the zr1 sawblades up for sale once I have these mounted and decide if I'm happy enough with the looks

what are they going on? I''ve always liked the looks of wheels that come close to matching the argent cladding...and these appear to do that. Just wondering if you're truck is xx/gray?

Nice wheels... Funny you posted them up, I just had three sets of the 18" at my house and all brand new.. Now I only have one set... The color will not look good against a truck with argent cladding as the wheels are a bronzish color.. I may color coordinate mine??? We'll see..

These were painted a metallic gray by previous owner and they're going on a black and gray ty. If the color is off I'll probably have them powder coated down the road. I thought about 18s but they're too wide for what I've got, not a big fan of 9.5 wheels with 275s up front tbh, especially with the crap roads here

I love the original color of the magnesium wheels. But those look good in that color as well. I thought about all gold, but I like the bronze color they have.

Well they showed up today, I actually really like the color of them. Now to decide on AS tires.. I'm thinking of continental extreme contact dws, anyone have experience with them on a ty?

Just a little advise if you are going to have them powder coated make sure you use a shop that gas done magnesium wheels before. My buddy owns a shop and has seen a few disasters from out gassing issues.

I had extreme Dw's summer time tires on my truck....make sure you get a middle of the road tread compound....not too soft and not too hard! Mine were like 300 compound rating and wore pretty quickly....I decided to go with p275/40r17 in a nitto S555 nice tire...cheap and grip very well and I can rotate my tires whereas before I couldn't due to the 17s in front and 18's in back.
Now I run wagon wheels with 17's .....here's a link for the nittos....just a little food for thought even though they're summer tires...they have the invo's also.... http://m.nittotire.com/car-tires/nt555-summer-ultra-high-performance-tire/

And invo's. .. http://m.nittotire.com/car-tires/nt420s-all-season-truck-suv-tire/

Re: New wheels on the way

I just got tires for them today, wanted to finish off the tires on the sawblades before buying these. I went with Continental Control Contact Sport AS. They're pretty similar to DWS06 (upgrade to DWS) with more emphasis on dry performance and a bit less on winter, they also have a higher load rating and stiffer sidewalls. They ride 1000x better than the sumitomos I had though. Will post pics soon, I don't have adapters for rear, need 1" but 1 1/8" would be better.

I like them, they'll look a lot better once arches are fixed and rear adapters are in

Those are really sharp on your Ty man, perfect!!!
And they are not black LOL. Too many do black these days, reminds me of beater cars in the old days with no hub caps on black steel wheels :rotf:, who knew they were styling back then .

Any info on the weight/savings?

Re: New wheels on the way

Thanks lol, I'm not sure on weight savings because I don't know weight of zr1 sawblades or sumitomo htr, but new wheels are 17lbs each and tires are 24, so I'm sure it saved a good bit of weight. The handling is great compared to how it was, steering is quick and not sloppy at all. Better over bumps and quieter too, definitely worth the price for DD imo
