Re: Newbie in Oklahoma

Kind of weird about the 104 boost. From my exp. the stuff does nothing. I think you beed like 5 cans just to raise one octane point. The engine compartment looks stock. There some nice polishing, but the IC hoses are stock (Hard lines attract heat). For sure find what chip is in there. The Kenny bell had no knock retard so if you start to knock it wont pull out timming and Ka Boom. Good to see what was done to the transmission too. I found out the hard way that our transmissions, even built ones blow up.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the 104 and the hard lines, GJP. I've been reading the forums concerning upgrades and have already identified some things that need changed (depending on what the build sheets tell me). What are the opinions on the Waller CAC?

As far as the tranny goes, that's another unexplored topic.. right now I don't even know what tranny is in it, but assume it's the 700.

When I got out of high school I went to diesel mechanics school and ended up rebuiding turbos for Caterpillar for a few years (one of the places I developed such a hankering for them :) ). I used to study Gale Banks designs back in the late seventies (pre electronic controls) and can't wait to start making some changes - but, having learned from my drag racing days, one documented, verified change at a time!

If you are going to keep the a2w its the best way to go IMO. You have a very nice truck and If it was mine I would not do to much to it. With these trucks once you start doing mods, it never ends. WIth such a clean truck like that I would just do a few reliability mods and enjoy driving it. I am curious what was done too. By looking at the pics a lot of time was spent on it. Wish my trucks underside was that clean.

Re: Newbie in Oklahoma

Well, I got the 'build' documents for my Sy today.... a little disappointing to say the least. Great pictures of the frame-off restoration (no doubting that now :) ), but little documentation on the modified mechanicals.

Perhaps unfortunately I do have receipts for a Kenne Bell 40lb street (#kb8026). Googling this, it is the KB chip that GJP says can blow up engines cuz of no knock retard. This would be one good reason the outside of the large envelope said "do not run on pump gas, race fuel only". IMHO this is not a terribly efficient, or reliable fail-safe set-up on a boosted motor. :( I'll have to do some research to figure out what to do about this one.

The receipts also show KB 40lb injectors, a screw in breather (egr bypass), 160 degree thermo, and a KB "big boy" pipe - haven't researched that one yet.... also a bunch of stainless brake lines from a shop called "Inline Tube" in Michigan.

At least now I have the name of the shop that did the resto, and I can call them on Tuesday for the details.

I can say that it's basically a new truck. During the resto the only sheetmetal not replaced was the cab: EVERYTHING else is new (body panels, cladding, hinges, latches, window mechanisms, grille, wiring harness, etc., etc. Even all the nuts, bolts, and cladding rivets are new :) I feel very fortunate to have found this one!

Still a mystery, though. I know from experience that it's a 12 second vehicle. I originally thought maybe 11's, but have since recalibrated my butt accelerometer ;)

I HAVE TO find out what is in this little beast!

Happy New Year all!

Re: Newbie in Oklahoma

I would look at getting that out of there. I think Phil long could do a 40lb chip.
Nice to see all the work done on the truck. good tuning and a few mods will get these trucks into 12's. Takes a bit more to see 11's. Thats what I am shooting for. High 11's. I hope to find out next year. My friend is trying to talk me into a frame off because I have the whole drivetrain out right now.
I would get a scan tool and keep a eye on the Knock.
