Welcome Mike! Nice GN! I know your area well. My wife is from Bakersfield.

The Typhoon definitely seems more complex with the water-to-air intercooler and what looks like even more emissions stuff.

Is there any benefit to converting to an air-to-air setup...Maybe even a front mount?

Sent from my HTC EVO.

A lot of people like air-air. I only drag race (no auto-x or road racing) and don't really drive long distances so I prefer water-air because I can get the temp a lot lower that air-air for short blasts. What are your plans? Are you looking for a stock Ty, one with a few bolt-ons or a a modded one?

Small world! We spend a lot of time in Bakersfield. It's like a little slice of The South smack in the middle of SoCal!

I'm looking for a Ty as primarily a daily driver. Stock or lightly modded would be fine, but it would need to be in good running condition and not beat up. Knowing that these cars are 20 years old, I don't expect perfect paint, but a straight body with no rust is important. That's about what it would take for me to trade my GN!

Yep. Home of Buck Owens.lol

I would look for one as unmodified as possible if you are thinking daily driver. If you keep a syty original and keep it maintained it should be very reliable.

Wait your family has owned the Gn since new? Sorry I would never part with that

I hear ya. And I wouldn't even consider another vehicle besides a Typhoon, and here's why:

The GN belonged to my Dad until he passed away back in 2006. Then it came to me. Back in the day, he tried to trade it in on a brand new Typhoon, but the local dealers wanted an arm and a leg, and at the same time, didn't want to give him anything for the GN. Being the stubborn man that he was, he wound up keeping it.

Anyway, since this is something he would have done, I don't feel too bad doing. I'm still a bit conflicted, though, as this car was part of my life as a teenager, and there are some good memories in it.

I am lucky enough to own both myself (took a divorce to so so LOL). The GN sure gets a lot more attention (especially from cops), and surprisingly insurance is 1/3 the price. The fit and finish is much better on Buicks, my 60K mile GN interior still looks and smells new. Aftermarket parts are so much easier to get, and much cheaper on GN. Paint on the SyTy's holds up much better than that "crows foot" lacquer on the GNs. The boost AWD launch on the GMC is hard to beat, and passengers are simply amazed :) The only other downside to the GMC's is they tend to be much more fragile, and not as forgiving to mods/abuse as the 3.8's. I still am amazed that these trucks can overboost with no cat and free flowing exhaust. I run open exhaust from downpipe at the track! I must say, it is so cool to have them both beside each other in the garage...... a beautiful sight
