No Fuel pressure 139 mile truck

T-Bon'e Sy has been bitchy to start. He'd have to crank it over 10-15 times before it would start.
I put a fuel pressure gauge on it today, and the fuel pump does not turn on with the key.Once the engine starts cranking,it kicks on and the truck starts. The pump works fine with the gray wire jumpered. This truck has only 139 miles on it and is untouched.Any ideas?

relay!!!

also check the ecmb fuse it needs to be upgraded to a 15 or a 20

If the fuel pump relay is not energized, the truck will start when there is enough oil pressure built up via a bypass circuit. Swap the AC and FP relays to see if that's it. If not, check for power on the gray/white wire that the ecm uses to energize the relay and also make sure the ground is good.

I just went through this on my Ty, but in my case it wouldn't start at all, even with oil pressure built up. My problem turned out to be the ecm, but it sounds like your's is just the relay as supersports10 suggested.

Re: No Fuel pressure 139 mile truck

yea the prime relay isn't working properly... when you crank it over oil pressure closes the oil pressure fuel pump switch and turns the pump on

try a new fuel pump relay, might have a problem in the wiring. check to see if the ecm is grounding the relay

I'd take it to the dealer... Tell them that its only got 139miles on it and demand warranty work..

ROFL

Bwahahahahaa.. Sorry that was mean.. I wouldnt ever REALLY recommend dealership to anyone (unless they live near the one that Tony works at)..

I assume you checked all the fuses, so I am with the guys saying relay !!

U can swap around the one for the IC.. It should be same..

This is funny and I'd like to see the dealer face when you tell it only got 139 miles and won't start.

Re: No Fuel pressure 139 mile truck

well maybe not the same but-

when I decided to drive my 869 mile (yeah there are a few other low mileage trucks around) I wasn't getting good fuel pressure. Yes it had sat for almost all 14 years and probably a good 8-10 years with NO startups and half a tank of gas. we pulled the tank - I wanted an upgraded fuel pump anyway. well the inside of the tank had a rust coating throughout. The rubber insulator/cover on the pump itself was like soft rubber glue. And of course the smell of the gas burned the hairs in your nose. I esitmate that it was probably the 3rd or 4th tank of gas the truck had seen its entire life (yeah I bought it new).

so we replaced the tank and the pump and filter and I prayed the injectors would work. It idles a little rouogh at times but has good emissions. Mileage seems to be OK and power fine so I haven't done anything but run strong cleaner through. I can't undue what I did wrong with it sitting all this time but I am basically driving a brand new Syclone and enjoying it. OH all the lube areas seemed almost completely empty. I didn't know grease would evaporate but either it disappeared or was never there. We changed the oil and filter, antifreeze. But somehow the break cylinders have held up (probably blow out tomorrow now that I've said something) and I haven't changed the trannie fluid yet. I am worried about some pitting on the torsion bars. The surface rust on the rotors is slowly going away.

Having had other low mileage cars, I still feel having one so low is different. Something that has low average yearly miles and then is parked really requires a lot to be driven regularly. I still think it has a lot to do with moisture build up in all the mechanicals. my Syc never even got broken in and collected the moisture except from the exterior. It's not perfect but it hasn't taken a lot to make it driveable - geez I am opening myself up to everything falling apart tomorrow - touching wood.

anyway thats my experience. Oh even the front drivers speaker was crackling for awhile but now seems to be working. Of course I am catching up on this forum for all the normal wear and tear everyone has experienced.

....geez now what should I be doing with the 649 mile '87 T-Type sitting in the other garage.....

Bill.....where are you from? Reason I ask is that a buddy of mine lived next to a guy some years back that had a GNX, T-Type, Syclone, and Typhoon all stored in garages and ALL with less than 1k miles. Obviously, I doubted the claim, but he brought pics and a short video. Just wondering if you're the guy (and maybe sold off some of the vehicles).

Re: No Fuel pressure 139 mile truck

Not me. I'm in PA.

the stable includes
White '87 T 649 miles
#42 Syclone - nearly 1000 miles now
'78 Li'l Red Express approx 50K miles
another '87 T 80K miles
'86 T-Type over 150K miles
another '86 T-Type over 225K miles and just retired
'92 Lesabre for 18 year old son
'01 Astro Conversion Van for wife

nothing special just tried to have fun drivers and then backups for when the drivers finally died. with more kids driving and funds short, we decided to pull out the Syc and use it. Not sure if/when the '87 T will come out too. Yes I could have made a lot more money if I had just put the $ ($24K for Syc and $17K for T) in the bank or the market. but I always thought I would want a new Syc or TurboBuick in the future so I do have that.

short story -but recently I had the truck out and in the dark hit a beautiful pothole the we in PA have a million of. broke my 20" Gianelle wheel. so I am changing the wheel in parking lot and its getting alot of attention from passerbys and the local kids. guy comes up and asks "is is stock?", so trying to make short conversation I say "yep stock with 800 miles". so now I get "oh its brand new - didn't know they were making these". so I say - "yeah brand new from 1991", his reponse - "1991! oh my gosh why haven't you used it since 1991?"

I turn to my nephew and we look at each other with our eyebrows peaked - "because I didn't want to be out in these f*ing roads breaking wheels and my truck and talking with people like you....."

it was in fun but did make me think - 14 years in the garageand then one night out and who knows what damage I was doing. time for some easy mods and look for some kills - that will make it worth it.

Re: No Fuel pressure 139 mile truck

Thanks all for the responses. I figured it was either a fuse or relay but Jimmy said he'd post to be double sure. Despite the few that think otherwise, he really is a cool person and goes out of his way on a moments notice to help out.....not expecting a single thing in return. Not many like him left!!!! Thanks Jimmy!

is this Syc still not running? If it is running could you please share the findings? I saw I recent post saying it's easily worth $25K and it reminded me that the last time I heard it about it is wasn't running.
