No Start

My Ty decided not to start this morning and I was latye for work because i had to drive my project rig (suzuki samurai) there.

I am not getting shit when i turn the key. I thought maybe purple wire bc i had read that somewhere, then i read more posts and it seems like that would at least click and useually only when hot. I have never had an issue before. My headlights are super bright, stereo works, fuel pump works, air pump works. I just get not solonoid click at all. Wiggled the battery cables, put a charger on it, tryed to do 100 Amp quick start, turned the key and moved the shifter (neutral safety switch maybe?), tryed to start in neutral and wiggled wires going to starter including purple before I went to work, now it is dark and rainging and i cant drive/push it inside so I hope to get some feed back where to look and what to do tomorrow.

I know I can count on you guys to get me in the right direction.

Re: No Start

try straight jumping your starter, if it cranks that'll eliminate the starter. might be the ignition switch.

Re: No Start

Figured it out, the little wire (not sure of color, covered in gunk) has the end broken off. I could not get to the screw to put it back on after getting a new terminal on.

HOW THE HELL DO YOU REMOVE THE STARTER!!!!!????

I have less than a 1/2" hangin up on the flywheel shroud and the read end kits the motor mount of the controll arm link.

PLEASE HELP!

Also while I am down there, what should I do for preventative.... put in a 454 starter? This one takes almost 2 seconds of spooling to fire it off and it sounds straight pussy compared to other GM starters, do I have a weak connection, is that why its cranking so long??

thanks for the replys thus far

Re: No Start

That little wire is the famous purple wire.. do a search for that and you'll see tons of info. Check that wire for any ware because if it's burnt or frayed it'll cause you head aches

I believe this one is the correct starter

and some people can managed to wiggle the starter out by moving it towards the front and sueezing it through without removing the flex plate cover.. but i couldn't do that with the OEM clunker so I just removed the flex plate to do mine.

Re: No Start

Got it out and a new connector on. THe purple wire looked decent. Added more heat shiled to it. I left the 4th bolt out of the dust cover so if I ever need to go there again, it will be cake. Starts quite well now.

Thanks for the help guys!

Re: No Start

So all you did was put a new connector on it? I have a new mini starter less than 2 months old driven the truck less than 10 times and now have the same problem you do. No click or turn over but full electrical. Guess i'll have to jack the #@$ up tommorow and mess around with the connector.

Re: No Start

I'm having the exact same problems with my sy. Pulled out the purple wire to find it is no longer purple. Seems that someone did a repair (if you want to call it that) on the wire already. Going to re run new wire with a heat shield, and throw in a tahoe starter. Hopefully all will be well once complete. I guess I was at least lucky enough to have it happen at home.

Re: No Start

She's alive. Replaced the damaged portion of the purple wire with some 12awg silicone wire. Bolted in the new 454 starter, and started right up. This was my first starter R&R, and it went very well.
