not quite a sy, but HELP!!!!(4.3 02 S10)

Well after a long time of research I have been told that a stock turbo for a sy/ty would be one of my better options for doing a DIY turbo setup on my 02 4.3 s10. I think that they come stock with a 17c turbo if I am not badly mistaken. I also have heard that the stock turbo does great till the high end; in which it does not flow well.

1. What is a comparable turbo to the 17c in cfm flow, but wont choke on the top side?
2. Does anyone have a turbo in good condition that they are just sick of looking at that I could get for cheap...like shipping only...I gotta ask!!!

heres a pic of anyones interested.

A 20g is the most common bolt on upgrade. And no one will probably sell you a turbo for shpping only. If so, expect it in parts and in need of rebuilding.

Be prepared to spend some coin to make it all work (manifolds, IC setup, boost control) or be ready to do some major fabrication. Nice S-10!!

a 20g is still a mitsubishi turbo and still isnt' that large. A stadard 4.3 will have no trouble spooling it if everything thing is done correctly. Waller can make a 20g hyrbrid for you if you like as well.

Re: not quite a sy, but HELP!!!!(4.3 02 S10)

Well thanks for the responses guys.

As far as money goes this will be a cheap setup. I am building some custom headers cause the stock primarys are 1.25'' so that takes care of manifolds. Ill be running the turbo in the stock location of the cat, so crossover pipes wont be an issue. I hope to find a turbo with an internal wastegate and a BOV to control boost as this will be a purely mechanical system. Ill only be running 7 pounds at most, so I wont need a rediculous intercooler. Fabrication is no problem, period. Ill be running an inline fuel pump to add to the pressure of the sys. and my injectors can handle 7 psi(depending on cfm). So I should be ok for low boost, and yeah it wont make a gazzillion hp, but it will be a custom turbo system on my s10 in which noone else can ever have.

Oh and the name is going right on the front of the scoops like where the WS6 has ram air...but its going to be S10 T-type. Ghosted in silver. I can airbrush so that will be cheap too...

Re: not quite a sy, but HELP!!!!(4.3 02 S10)

In your guys opinions what would be the best turbo to use for this configuration?

1. max 8psi somewhere around 550-600 cfm
2. full boost between 2000 and 2500 rpms
3. Oil cooled only.
4. BB or DBB( no fluid bearing)
5. Wont choke up on top end flow

I know thats alot to ask for and I can sacrafice the full boost rpm for top end flow. Thanks ahead of time.

something doesnt make snece here, u cant have cheap and all that. the stock turbo is liquid cooled and has oil bearings. with that kinda turbo u will spend atleast $700 for a used one id assume. and 8-900 for new. u got to be realistic. a stock syty turb ou can probably pick up used for 200 in good condition.

Re: not quite a sy, but HELP!!!!(4.3 02 S10)

well i do have a few hookups in the turbo world...so i can get a turbo for a little side work.

just trying to figure out what my best option for aturbo would be...

and i have changed my requirements for maxboost vs rpm...i would take 10 psi at 3200 instead of what i said before.

thanks for yoru help though.
